Vanderbilt Transfer Thread [Fall 2017]

How does one fill out mid-year anyways. Do I have to hand it to each professor individually? or then to dean or something? my college doesn’t have midterm grades

@HopefullyIGetIn yeah you have to hand it to each professor and they will put in your grade and sign it. then you fax or mail it to the colleges you are sending it to

@HopefullyIGetIn , that’s exactly what I did. I have 6 professors this semesters and went to all of them individually. You just ask them, “if you had to close the semester right now, what grade would I have?” If you professor doesn’t give mid term grades, but you’ve participated in class and shown yourself to be a determined and competent student, they’ll write you an “A”, ideally.

My mid-term report is a heavy part of my application and shows that despite me taking 19 credits this semester, I still managed to keep a 4.0. I’m banking on this thing hahaha

last year i went to each professor individually to fill the mid term report out

If they need the form, will they contact me?

I’m freaking out now, you guys keep talking about the mid-term report even though its not required, is this something most transfer applicants are submitting in regardless?

the form isn’t required. i don’t know if most people are sending it in regardless, but unless they don’t have many credits established then it’s not really that helpful.

I emailed my counselor and he said it’s not a required part of the transfer application process. Nevertheless, I still can’t help but think my lack of a mid term report will detract from my application. I think I’m just paranoid…

Not only is it not required, its not even recommended on the Vanderbilt transfer guide. The guide doesn’t even mention the mid-term report. I don’t know where you guys are getting your info lol.

aight that’s a relief lmao

Hello all! I am new to cc and applying to a few schools. I figure I might as well post my stats and would love some honest feedback, no matter how harsh. I do not want to have any regrets when applying to schools. So, I am applying to schools that I know are a big reach.

Objective

HS GPA 3.0 – poor, I know:( I explain why in personal statement

MI Community College – 3.84 ( not including Mid-Term report, which is a 4.0)

Large upward trend

Fall 2015 – 3.668 (A- in Introductory french 1, but A in Intermediate 1 and A in IM 2 on MD report)

Winter 2016 – 3.82 (A- in introductory french 2, but A later in Intermediate 1 and A in IM 2 on MD report)

Summer 2016 – 4.0

Fall 2016 – 4.0

Winter 2016 – 4.0 on mid-term report

I have All A’s except for 3 A- and a B- in Fall 2015 in honors comp-1

I received an A in english comp-2.

My course load is very rigorous. It is as hard as it gets for a CC. Several honors courses

A’s in honors micro, honors gov, intermediate french 1, statistics, macro, and several more. I will graduate with an Associate of Arts this semester.

Personal Statement

I poured my heart into it. In hs, both my parents lost their jobs, my home was foreclosed, we relied on others for housing, my family went on food stamps, and I worked at McDonald’s to support my family. I explained how this resulted in my fascination for all things related to government and as a result, wanting to major in poli sci with the intention of becoming a lawyer. I also explained how a higher education will allow me to support my mom. I think it explains my life, motives, and why I am doing what I am doing. TBH very proud of it. Overall 9.5/10 IMO

Supps

I think strong. All were proofread by very reputable people. I used the optional essay to write about my dad who is no longer in my life due to alcoholism and other factors.

LOR-- I have three. One from French, Econ, and head of honors program. I believe they are all excellent.

EC’s – I will only list college.

Work at McDonald’s for several hours a week

Elected president of a club specifically for leadership

VP of an academic club

Volunteer work with Dementia Patients

Very involved in my chabad. I’m very active in the Jewish Community

Leader of Jewish youth group

Research this summer at U of M–Ann Arbor

Again, I realize this is not a chance me thread, but would love to interact with all of you about the transfer process.

The mid year report is NOT required by Vanderbilt. They have no issue adding it to your application if you submit it however, so if you have a good one, you might as well.

@Goingforclacking hey! like so many of the applicants here, you have great stats and have as good of a chance as any of us to get accepted to vanderbilt. keep us updated!

Hi @somehmonggirl thank you for that comment! I really appreciate it. Upon review, it appears that I misspoke on my supplement essay for Vanderbilt. I confused Vanderbilt’s sup with Brown’s. I wrote about working at McDonald’s and I believe it is very strong. Regardless of what happens, I am beyond proud to be offered admission to Michigan and the fact that I can even think beyond U of M is an indescribable feeling, truly. Thank you for your kind words.

imagine getting a rejection letter of waitlist for that matter. And thinking “dam, what if I sent that midterm report?”

I agree with the other users here that the mid-term is -not- a necessary part of your application and its absence will not in any circumstance jeopardize your application.

The only reason I’m sending mine is because of my specific set of circumstances: 4 years since I graduated high school and I’m only in my second semester of college.

In my specific set of circumstances, the mid-term report is an important supplement to my application.

@AGoodFloridian Oh yeah, if I was a sophomore transfer applicant I’d probably also send in the mid-term report because I’d want them to focus more on my college grades than hs. Just as a junior transfer applicant I don’t think its necessary.

@HopefullyIGetIn i got waitlisted last year and did not send the mid term prior to my admission decision and also did not think that it was a factor at all. lol. i sent it after i got waitlisted and felt better that i held off sending it until then because it made a strong case for sending a letter of continued interest and an updated resume

is anybody’s applicant login not working?

Anyone else having trouble contacting their councilor? I used the form to ask a question but never even received an automated reply?
