Vanderbilt University Chances?

Hi everyone! I’m a sophomore in high school who wants to get into Vanderbilt for psychology and taking the pre-recs for med school to be a pediatrician.

Academically, in my freshman year I had an unweighted 4.0 GPA with three honors classes. This year, I have one AP class, with 4 honors classes (one of them is honors band). My unweighted GPA is 3.86, which really sucks. Next year, I am planning to take more AP classes.

Outside of academics, I am involved in many ECs. I am in PF debate, the club for future doctors at my school, a club that mentors kids in a lower-income area, Science Olympiad (which I've won many individual awards for), and Caring for Cambodia. This summer through Caring for Cambodia, I am going on a service trip to teach English and rebuild communities in Cambodia. I am also going to be volunteering at an orphanage in Shanghai as well. I play in Band, Orchestra, and Marching Band, and I am first chair in the top honors band class at my school. I also babysit a lot and I have a job at a gym for childcare in exchange for membership :)

I’m a team lead for Science Olympiad and Caring for Cambodia.

I am planning to start a Psychology club next year at my school with a friend, as we are both planning on majoring in Psychology.

With these ECs, I'm in two sports, badminton and golf. I'm in the 9-12th in the state for badminton, and I won my sectionals and many invites my Freshman year (season starts late into the year, so I haven't played yet in my Sophomore year). Before high school, I've placed in many tournaments for badminton, both in-state and out of state. I just picked up golf this Sophomore year, and I'm on JV. My coach predicts that I can get on varsity next season, as I had only started a month before high school season arrived.

I have not started studying for the ACT/SAT, but I have placed in the 96th percentile for English and 86th for math on the PSAT.

What should I do to improve my chances of getting into Vanderbilt and does anyone have any tips for Vanderbilt specifically?

Thank you so much!

Your ECs don’t mean anything if you don’t do anything with them. Make nationals in PF yet? And have you done anything in the club for future doctors(tbh that totally sounds like resume padding)? And no one can chance you without your stats. What you’re taking doesn’t matter so much as what you’re taking is the most rigorous curriculum at your school. Also, nothing really shouts “Psychology!” at me from your resume. The only STEM activity you have is Science Olympiad…did you place in state?
