Vanderbilt University Medical Center separates from Vanderbilt University

I am planning to attend Vandy this fall as a biomed eng student. Just read that Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) will legally separate from Vanderbity University soon. How will that affect undergrad students who want to do medicine in VUMC or other students who want to do undergraduate research there ?..

This is purely a legal/finance thing and will have no effect on undergraduates.

^. Med center is not-for-profit, while the university is.

^ the university is a not for profit institution as well.

Won’t even have an effect on the Med School. All research and clinical opportunities will be exactly the same. This is just so the Medical Center can more easily get financing for expansion. Most universities with Medical Centers are legally separate entities for this reason.

This has been in the works for quite some time and won’t have any effect on students, as @higheredrocks mentions. It has meant splitting up departments that previously supported both VUMC and the University and has meant some reassignments of administrators & staff over the last 18 months or so.

Thank you all for responding!
