Vanderbilt vs Rutgers honors for engineering

Basically my two choices for biomedical engineering are Vanderbilt and the Rutgers Honors Program. I was wondering if some people had some opinions on which school would be better or if they would be about equal, i mean my options after school....Thanks

hey... im in your situation too between choosing rutgers honors or a more prestigious school... ive been accepted to jhu, northwestern, uva, and mcgill... but i think im leaning towards going to RU honors (for free)

heres my reasoning: i want to go to med school after i graduate (were both interested in the sciences)... if i go to medschool ill be taking its $160,000 burden upon myself while if i go to RU, my parents will be able to pay... at RU i can get a 4.0 or close easy and at the other schools, im not sure i can do that so easily (jhu/northwestern at least)... since med school looks a lot more at gpa than what school you go to supposedly, that looks good to me... RU honors grads go on to the best med schools, grad schools, and companies... the list in their brochure impressed me at least ;-)

hmm what else... i went to the RU honors day and i was actually really surprised with it... small, advanced classes, seminars, research/thesis opportunities... etc... i wasnt expecting to be impressed, but i was

so yea right now i think im going to end up at RU (really the only thing thats holding me back is probably my whole high school career giving me a stigma against going to RU)

anyone else care to respond if im being stupid or if you agree with me??

thanks, and good luck with your decision

PS... i would have gone to another school if i had been accepted to my top choices (princeton, yale, or columbia)... seeing as im not crazy about the schools i was accepted to, i think RU is worth it for the money

Rutgers social life, and surroundings are the worst I've ever seen in a campus (a lot of my friends go there, I live in the area). I would avoid it at all costs. As a matter of fact, I have been avoiding it at all costs.

Thanks for the reply Supermitt. You're basically in the exact same position as me. I was waitlisted at UVA otherwise id be going there no doubt. I dont think im going to go to medical school, although ill figure that out in a couple of years, but i def. want to go to grad school, unless i get a great job right away. My financial situation is the same as yours. Go to Rutgers, it isnt free for me but all four years would probably be the same or a little less than one year at Vandy, or go to the big name and take on some debt. Im going to go visit both and then make my decision but im leaning towards rutgers for the financial reasons, it just makes more sense and plus i know a bunch of people that are going there.

anyone else have anymore comments or opinions? and muffin why do you say that rutgers is so bad. i know a bunch of people that go there and that have graduated that have loved it.

try to appeal and get Vandy to give you $$

What do you mean appeal? I already got a financial aid package but even with it the school is still a reach. Thanks for your help
