Vandy?

Do people actually call it "Vandy" IRL? Or just here on CC?

Looks/sounds silly to me. ;)

I've heard people in real life and on television refer to Vanderbilt as Vandy. I'm sure if you googled "Vandy," the majority of the results would be related to Vanderbilt.

I don't really think Vandy sounds weird. People always try to shorten/abbreviate things, like when you used "IRL" instead of just putting "in real life."

OK. Just checking.

I didn't want to embarrass myself by using the nickname if it's not really a common thing.

I mean, can you imagine saying "Stanny" or "Harvey" or "Corny" (Stanford, Harvard, Cornell) to one of their students or alums?

Thanks.

Vandy is used ALL the time. Better get used to it! :)

Yeah they even sell shirts in the bookstore that just say Vandy

It's the most common name for the school, and shows up in most of our fight cheers, such as "Vandy! Vandy! Oh Hell Yeah!" and others. The reason you wouldn't shorten Cornell, Harvard and Stanford is because they're already just two syllables long whereas Vanderbilt is three. Thus, the shortened version is the most common name for the school.

Vandy? We never refer to it that way in the admissions office. ;-)

Sincerely,
