Vanquished dreams, reality setting in!

enfieldacademy, everything is irrelevant. This earth and humans are all irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. That’s not a good argument against prestigious education. If you get a prestigious education, you can increase your chance of getting a prestigious job. Now, prestigious job isn’t the be-all-end-all but it’s helpful. You don’t have to argue about money like many working-class families, you don’t have to worry about that. You can be happy in your job and in your personal life. Alas, most people only seem to be happy with their personal life given they didn’t choose their jobs and it’s a necessity rather than luxury.

yeah i know. I mean, i am talking about the thing we all might face: dealing with death. And it will come in seconds, we have to realize. I am wondering when we are on the brink of death what is important then? in that moment how will we see things? to me, it is how we will see things then which is most important. That is the most present moment there is. It is the last moment of consciousness. How we delay this moment, not let it take us by surprise, etc, has very little to do with the education we receive. It has to do with other things.

I don’t know how important this moment really is though. Maybe to live a happy 30 years to then endure a miserable 2 is good enough. somehow I think the opposite is better.

anyways, I know what I said was pointless (and I know what I am saying now is pointless too :)).

I took an I.Q calculator and apparently I am in the 99th percentile.

It depends on what your goals in life are. If one wants the be in an Ivy League for the benefits of that (which is fine) such as the prestige, opportunities, to have a great job, etc., then it is understandably very important to that person. If one’s goal is truly to learn for the sake of learning, because they enjoy it, while it would certainly be wonderful to attend an Ivy League, it is not necessary to that goal. That is only what I believe.

I think you only have one chance at life so why not try to get it as perfect as possible

I have nothing against people who strive to go to the Ivy Leagues. In fact, i admire them for having that drive and ambition, because it comes with a lot of hard work and persistence. Plus, i am one of them. However, i do have a problem with people who become blinded by having the perception that Ivies are the “only” college for them. Anyone who is able to, SHOULD strive for the Ivies, but if you are seriously going to be obnoxious about it and think lower of anyone who doesn’t go to any Ivy, then you need to reevaluate yourself. The fact of the matter is, yes, an Ivy League education IS very important (that is why it is so coveted). But what’s more important is a person’s character. An Ivy League education comes and goes, but you character is what stays with you your entire lifetime. If striving for the Ivies makes you an ambitious and resilient person, then so be it, that’s great. But if it just makes a person obnoxious and blind to the other opportunities on this world, then that’s really sad.

Lol if you actually looked up Yuppie, you’d know what it mean, 109111.

facepalm

Infact it would describe your ideal future, but that won’t happen. Because you won’t get into an ivy. Mwauaha. chuckle chuckle

And I wouldn’t go into names, 109111

Are you insinuating something here yuppie?

God thats such a big word… I’m intimidated.

Let me simplify for you, are you trying to say something against my name?
Judging by your name you’re a girl. Is that right?

…God this is so depressing talking to you. I was being sarcastic.

And look up Yuppie you ignorant kook.

Apparently you’re a guy. And thanks for alerting me to the sarcasm, I couldn’t detect it.

Are you ilovefgump?

What about those who DO make it to Ivies and can’t afford it?

People can be such pretentious snobs sometimes…

I don’t even know who ilovegump is.

^A sex obsessed but reasonably lolzy girl.

Gotta love Harry Jones.
I think the OP has the right idea. It’s true a lot of us won’t get into an Ivy/top college.
I’m only an 8th grader, but if our current grades hold, nearly 100 kids will apply to at least one Ivy/Top 20 college. That’s 1/7 of the grade. A lot of kids get accepted relative to a general school, but that’s still at most 10-15/100.
I don’t find it sad, just funny and realistic.

Wow she sounds fun. But no I’m not her.

Yesss, I’m going to a 4 year CSU and they’re all good enough for me

@OP: If you (or anyone else in a position similar to yours for that matter) are reading this, you can always have the option to transfer. That’s what’s nice about America–they’re usually a second chance.
