Varsity Soprt VS. Grades

I currently play varsity tennis for my school, and I was wondering if it would be best to drop tennis if it interferes with my grades. My classes are pretty demanding and I fear that placing them second to sports could harm me.
(I am a Junior)

My Schedule is:
1. AP Latin III
2. AP English III
3. AP Chemistry
4. AP US History
5. AP Psychology
6. Honors Pre-Calculus/Calculus I
7. Introduction to Philosophy (Community College)

This is also in conjunction with Varsity Lacrosse, Varsity Debate, Key Club, National Honors Society, Young Democrats, Advanced Science Research(Mayo Clinic), and a few other insignificant clubs time wise.

I could handle this until this year due to only one AP class last year and the rest honors throughout Freshman and Sophomore year.

So, is it worth it to keep tennis?

keep playing

sure why not

I'd say grades>sports, but that's just me, I just kept both and did fine though.

^ditto. agree wit the above.

People often find that their grades go up during sports seasons.

well, if you're going to be a recruited athlete/olimpian or something, than I wouldn't let my athletics slack at all, but if you're just an average high school varsity player I'd put it backseat to grades.

Do you like tennis? Are you having a fun time playing? I think I would ask myself those questions when considering what to do. Maybe drop an AP class or something? You only get to be a part of organized athletics for a part of your life; unless your heart isn't in it, keep playing.

I think having a sport to do actually will help you out in the long run. It gets you focused on something other than school and while it takes time, you'll probably feel better anyway.

My concern is that lacrosse practice is every day of the week.
Tennis would require me to miss 2-3 days of practice a week out of 5. That might have been fine in JV, but my lacrosse coach won't let fly. Regularly, I was force to go from tennis practice (3:00-5:30) straight to a lacrosse game(6:00-8:30) and not get home until 9.

I am decent in Tennis and enjoy it, but I could play lacrosse in college.
I could pick up a martial art during the rest of the year to compensate so that the conflict could cease while keeping a sport, if you will.

:P Omg, it's not just me.

"I could pick up a martial art during the rest of the year to compensate "

that quote bothers me a bit. i'm not trying to pick on you or even belittle, but you shouldn't feel as though just because you drop one EC you have to pick up another.

just out of curiosity, what schools are you looking to apply to next year? that might help to get some more specific advice.

Um,if your coach won't let you do it, isn't that your answer

Varisity Coaches want ALL your attention, so do you think you are special enough of a player to get treated differently- I mean while all the other girls are there, you would be off doing your little tennis thing, and me, I would resent a player who was there half the time, and expected to get the same playing time as the rest of us

Think about your teammates and what they deserve from you, you are thinking of yourself and not your team

Perhaps quit lacrosse as it seems not very important to you

Drop the tennis. If you really can play lacrosse with College potential you may want to play more outside of the regular season and should look into showcases next summer. It's better to have one sport that you are really good at than a few that are so-so.

Grades are most important, but you will find that Varsiry Lacrosse is very demanding.
