Varsity Sports

We have block scheduling, so we have 4 classes a day then change classes at the end of the semester. The only way to do sports is to go to the practices they have everyday 4th block, which means if I want to do any varsity sport I have to give up 1/8th of my entire workload, which means I would either have to give up MCJROTC (which is not happening) or not be able to take honors courses. I am however on our ROTC's Raider team, which is basically where we go to Raider Meets to compete with other schools in different athletic events, kind of like a competitive boot camp weekend. Can this be listed as a Varsity sport? From the way it looks now I'm not going to be on any "official" varsity sports to get a letter so will that hurt my application alot, or a little. Sorry I kinda put alot of stuff in this but I have to make a decision within the next few weeks.

I had the same problem in my old school. My dad served with an admissions guy at USNA (they were good friends), he talked to me about admissions to USNA and he told me that he "highly recommended" playing some organized sport. If not for the school, then play for a club, YMCA, etc. It's still much better then not participating in sports at all, even though it may not count as much as being on a varsity team.

From personal expierence, I know that club teams do prepare you physically because I recently made the varisty water polo team at my new school with no school teams, but instead 2 years of club swim/water polo team.

During my one year of Army JROTC, I was on the "marksman team" and "PT team", and I know that all JROTC sports only count as "junior varsity".

BTW, the reason I was only in JROTC for one year was so that I would have more time to play sports and devote more time to the club that I later became president of. When I visited USNA again this summer, I talked to my dad's friend again and he said he thought I made a "good decision" of dropping JROTC to play sports and become president of a club.

Bottomline: Don't give up honors classes or MCJROTC (if you don't want to) and sign up for some club or YMCA team.

****Please pardon the organizational and gramatical crudity of this post. I was about to leave and I didn't get a chance to profread.
