Vassar a Party School?

My son is considering Vassar, specifically to study Biology. As I'm reading about Vassar, I'm getting more and more concerned about the student body. How can a highly selective school have such a problem with alcohol & drug usage?

Why are you concerned about the student body? They are doing awesomely well and they are smart enough to know that in order to achieve balance in life, they both work hard and play hard. They are obviously managing life much better than most people, so I don’t really understand why/how you perceive their recreational activities as being a ‘problem,’ seems more like a solution to me…

Of course the obligatory disclosure, most students do not drink or use drugs, it is just that Vassar is a very open and accepting environment so those who choose to are not as secretive about it as they would have to be at other schools. Non-judgmental openness makes it safer. If Robert Champion went to school in a non-judgmental, open and accepting environment, he’d probably still be alive. acceptance is mutual, if your son chooses the straight and narrow, no one is going to convince him otherwise.

It’s a very bold thing to say that they are managing their lives better than most people. Very immature response overall on your part.
