Hey guys so I was waitlisted from Vassar and I am currently enduring horrific waiting and obsessive unrequited love all alone, and I was wondering if any of you out there were going through the same thing. This is my top choice, dream school, and I quite honestly dont know where else I would go if I dont get in (yeah, I am sending my deposit in to another school but not with a particularly happy attitude). I think I've been annoying everyone around me with my obsessions so I figured I could find a group of like-minded people to obsess with.
So...
Who else is anxiously waiting to hear if they have been taken off of the waitlist or not???

I’m in the same boat! Waitlisted here and Princeton, my top choices.

They have just started sending out the waitlist emails, as I got mine today.
Good luck! They send several rounds.

Now I’m getting nervous. Did the email specify that they will be doing rounds?

Congrats mayabett!!! That’s awesome!!! And I think we should be ok if we didnt get an email the first day. It’s funny, I applied to Princeton. I actually applied early and then got deferred, and then got rejected. But I am very proud of that deferral haha. I have been obsessively checking email and everything to see if Vassar has sent anything to me… It’s safe to say I’m going a bit insane

Completely losing my marbles here. Sitting in front of my computer refreshing my computer over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Don’t worry, I feel the same exact way. You aren’t alone. These waitlists are driving me insane.

How many rounds do you think they do? I’m hoping it’s many many rounds. My stomach has been in knots since I heard they were starting to accept people. Out of curiosity, did you apply anywhere early?

I’m hoping it’s many rounds as well; we can only hope. I didn’t apply anywhere early, but I should have.

Yeah I completely should have applied early to Vassar but ah well, c’est la vie.
btw apparently they send out their decisions in the beginning of the week which is why everyone heard monday and nobody’s heard since.

Ahhhhhhhhhh!! Been waiting for so long!!! As an international student…Guess so much for Vassar for me, huh?

But good luck to you all! Well, and to me!

We’ll get through this, I’m sure. Don’t lose hope! :)

And ah, that’s a really great tidbit of info! I was wondering why I hadn’t heard of any other people getting off the list. Maybe it’s only one day a week for most schools as well. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you guys come Monday.

Monday again!! Anyone with good news?

ugh angrily cursing my empty inbox. How you guys doing out there? At least we all get to suffer together…

My D just got an offer from the Vassar waiting list just 4 hours ago. I’m very proud of her! But here’s the dilemma: Vassar was her first choice when she responded in late March. She was accepted by Wellesley, and said yes to their offer swiftly. But meanwhile, over the last 6 - 7 weeks, she decided she wanted to take a “gap year”, and just yesterday applied to a program she’s excited about. She believes (and I and her mom support her in this) that the gap year will give her wonderful, maturing experience. The catch: if she takes the Vassar offer, she can’t take the gap year.

Here’s the question: is there any way that if we go up to Poughkeepsie tomorrow (she must respond by Friday noon), that they will waive the requirement she attend next year, or is that a quixotic wish? And should someone give up a gap year desire to go to a college that they would like to go to, or go to one that’s still pretty darn close to the first choice, and take the gap year?

Any guidance would be so helpful.

Every other school has that as an option. Sounds like you need to request more time to respond if the answer is a NO.

If it were me I would take the gap year and give up Vassar. I don’t think they’ll waive the requirement she attend next year, they seemed pretty strict about that in all of the their letters and stuff. She has an amazing opportunity to attend a school that she really likes, plus take a gap year in a program she’s really excited for. Although Vassar is an amazing school, she’s got an alternative that is really really hard to beat, and I think her next five years will be absolutely amazing if she sticks with the gap year and Wellesley. That being said, I dont think she’d be disapointed or unhappy if she went to Vassar, but she might feel like she missed out on an opportunity with the gap year.

Beyond that, tell her congratulations on getting accepted!!! That is really really amazing and exciting. However, don’t let the excitement of being accepted become a shiny new thing that blinds her from the amazing plan she currently has.

This is the opinion of one girl that may or may not be slightly jaded from a few months of being at the mercy of every college on her list. Good luck and I hope you keep us posted on the final decision!!!

rhg3rd: You’re right about all other schools allowing gap years (including Vassar) for kids accepted straight-out, but I believe most if not all schools don’t permit kids accepted from the Waiting List to do gaps: they now have a class to fill, quickly.

Thanks, Fosicle; good advice. We’re going up to Poughkeepsie tomorrow to visit and talk to the admissions folk to see if they’ll waive the rule (1% chance of success, probably). After that, D has to decide what’s important to her. It’ll be a tough decision.

We just returned from Vassar, and my D has decided to accept the offer. She simply loves Vassar. Good luck to all CC’ers on the waiting list! The admissions officer we spoke to said they are still contacting people.
