Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2270 (one sitting)— CR 800/ W 780/ M 690
[] ACT: 31. Listed it (as per counselor’s request… not sure why), but didn’t send
[] SAT II: Chem 680/ Lit 680/ Bio 740/ US History 740
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.95 UW
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Neither rank nor percentile is reported, but I’m willing to bet I’m within the top 10% (Probably 2 to 4/68)
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): My school doesn’t offer APs (hence the username— all classes are supposedly at honors level), but I took Lit (and was happily surprised with a 5 )
[] Senior Year Course Load: Modern American Plays (hehe… it’s fun, okay?), Comparative Literature, Calc II, Spanish 5, Biotechnology, Quantitative Physics (Biotech, Calc II, and Quant are the triad of infamously difficult classes of the school)
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Nothing major at all. Achievement in US History and a school creative writing award.

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Varsity Softball for all high school
Varsity Cross Country for past two years
Been in three drama productions in high school
NHS (Officer)
Spanish Honor Society
Amnesty International (Officer)
Member of school’s volunteering club
[] Job/Work Experience: just babysitting, but I didn’t put that in my app
[] Volunteer/Community service: Volunteered >250 hours at local aquarium
Member of school’s volunteering club
Host monthly movie nights at local Ronald McDonald House
350-400 hours total CS
[] Summer Activities: Sophomore-- “Explo” camp @ Yale
Junior-- Sea Education Association Science at Sea, completed with High Honors (Intensive marine science camp. We took classes for ten days then lived on a research sailing vessel for eight days. It was awesome.) I also counseled two camps
Senior-- volunteering & babysitting. I counseled two camps and I was selected to do a special weekly lab shift (it’s pretty competitive) at the aquarium.
[] Essays: Writing is my strong suit. My English teacher and college counselor both said my CA essay was the best they’d read in years (which made me SO PUMPED!). My “Why Vassar” was fine, but super generic. I regretted not sending something more interesting. I sent two pieces of writing (one “personal narrative” essay, one Harry Potter movie review… because I have a movie blog… yeah, I’m cool) for YourSpace.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Didn’t see any of my recommendations. I’m friends with my English teacher and my science teacher has said that she has “great respect” for me. I’m so happy to be at a small school…
[] Counselor Rec: We’re buds, and like I said, my school is small, so it was probably good.
[] Additional Rec: My supervisor at the aquarium. He says I’m one of the more responsible volunteers.
[li] Interview: Fine, but kind of awkward…? It consisted mostly of discussing her experience at the school.
[/li]

[/ul]Other

[li] State (if domestic applicant): WA
[/li]

[li] School Type: Private Prep
[/li]

[li] Ethnicity: White…
[/li]

[li] Gender: Female… sigh…
[/li]

[li]Income Bracket: I feel weird saying this, but I don’t know any numbers. High. I don’t need aid.
[/li]

[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Not really. I lived in Europe for five years (5th-9th grade). But I don’t think I would be admitted for that.
[/li]

Reflection

[li] Strengths: GPA, course rigor, CA Essay, my ex-ex-patriot status
[/li]

[li] Weaknesses: SAT IIs, “Why Vassar?”, interview (but supposedly they don’t matter), lack of leadership/compelling extracurriculars (<< I thought this might be my downfall.), demographic (wooo, white girl!)
[/li]

[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I chose an essay that reflected my personality.
[/li]

[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Nowhere. I applied EA to Kalamazoo College, but I withdrew today.
[/li]

General Comments: SO PSYCHED. I’m looking forward to seeing you all! To those that didn’t get in, you are all lovely human beings, and I’m 100% sure you will end up at a fabulous institution.
