Vassar vs. NYU vs. Sarah Lawrence

Can you give me your input on which school is academically better. I only want an academic opinion (quality of education, quality of professors, post-graduation success, acceptance into competitive grad schools etc). Obviously there are different social atmospheres at NYU vs Vassar but I only want academic opinions. Thank you for your help :)

I'm not really an expert, but from my perspective, I think NYU has the most name recognition. Sarah Lawrence is also very writing and liberal arts focused, so if you're into the sciences, you might want to go for NYU.

I don't know very much about Vassar except it's in New York and Anthony Bourdain went there. :P

All are fantastic schools.
However, NYU has the best name recognition, but you are sure to find brilliant grad placement with a UG from any of those schools. It would help if you could tell us your intended major, also which school of NYU you are in, because some departments in those schools are better than others.

Well I applied to CAS at NYU but I was torn between CAS and Gallatin.

I was thinking of majoring in psychology and minoring in neuroscience.

I know SLC doesn't have neursocience but its teaching philosphy really appeals to me. I love the humanities just as much as the sciences and I love how half your credits have to be outside your concentration. However, career wise I think i'd experience more success in psychology and the sciences (and i'm not 100% on Neursocience yet).

Thank you for your input :)

Vassar was an original Seven Sisters school and turned down the opportunity to merge with Yale. It is now coed and ranks #11 of all liberal arts colleges. Academically it is superior to both NYU and Sarah Lawrence and, obviously, much harder to get into.

I've heard that SLC's psych department is one of its strengths, so I'd probably go with that, especially since you seem to like it so much.

I think you'd be able to take some neuroscience courses at colleges in NYC, unless I'm mistaken about SLC in that respect.

I would say Vassar. NYU is huge compared to the other schools. It has some top programs, but overall I would say that it does not exceed Vassar in quality. NYU is different. You would have a lot of options there, but classes would be larger and individual attention may be hard to get.

NYU may have the best name recognition among the lay public, but Vassar and SL would probably (in my opinion) provide the superior education.

NYU is also huge in comparison, and is generally horrible with financial aid compared with Vassar and Sarah Lawrence (65% met vs. 100% vs 90ish%). I don't know if that's a factor for you or not.

to be honest, it really depends on what department you are. (i.e. nyu’s biz school is top 5 in nation while it’s CAS is less stellar)
