thank you kwog64! I think I am staying with the school that accepted me even if I do get in. (unless they give me a boatload of money! LOL) Good luck with everyone’s college acceptances and if I hear anything, I will post.

@kwog64 , I had met the admissions officer once at a regional meeting (I’m from out of state), and had mailed a handwritten note in mid-April. The letter did say that the financial aid would be small, and sure enough when I got my financial aid letter today it was pretty much nothing. Hope that helps!

@Sintra - congrats on your acceptance, and condolences for you checkbook! That does help, actually. I had seen some other threads speculating that since schools want waitlisted students who will take the offer, the offers only go to kids who didn’t request aid (or who don’t need much aid.) But sounds like VC just puts out the offer, and lets you decide if you can afford it or not. My H is in-state (NYC) Tons of AP’s and 3 semesters of calc at Columbia. Still stunned that the VC waitlist was her only non-rejection from the schools she loved. Fingers still crossed, but feels like the chances are dimming…

Another Monday, 5/19. Not that that seems all that relevant. Anybody hear anything out there?

Nothing by Tuesday 5/20 for me

Yeah, I’m thinking Wednesdays are notification day this year. People have said they got their emails on 5/7 and 5/14. Lucky 21, here we come! (Just let these kids IN already… )

I didn’t receive anything today =(. Any word on if another round was sent out?

Nothing here. Are we the only two left on the thread?

Thursday 5/22. No word either way here. Anybody else? Even any rumors?

D got an email ‘offer’ yesterday. She has until Monday to reply. She is emotionally committed elsewhere, so I think there is still hope!! Hang in there!

Thanks @nohelicopter. Would you mind sharing what kind of follow-up you guys did? Additional recommendations, new accomplishments etc? And did they mention FA?

as of today, nothing yet. btw, the amount of money is determined by the government on what they feel you can afford. My mom had a meeting with an admissions officer from another school because we were trying to get more money and this is what we were told.

@kwog64 she did no follow up. On the initial response form she did indicate that she did not need FA to attend…
but I think I read somewhere that Vassar was more generous than most with WL FA…I could be just dreaming that, though. I would think a quick email continuing to express her interest and commitment to attend couldn’t hurt. Good luck! I hope you get good news soon!

In the waitlist FAQ they said that waitlisted students who are accepted get the same financial aid they would have if they were accepted ED or RD.

fyi. DS14 was admitted to Vassar and Wesleyan amongst others, accepted Wes and just last week was offered a place at Amherst from the waitlist. We visited Amherst from our West Coast state, I think that said ALOT to the admission committee, DS chatted with the senior doing the tour and he gave us his email, on returning home DS14 emailed the senior to thank him and copied the regional admissions dean and the dean of admissions to show his committment to attend, We re-iterated his intention to attend if admitted from the waitlist and outlined how he was going to use his summer productively including a couple of things he had done since applying, ie: new items to what was on the app.
A week or so later, lo and behold he gets a phone call, offer and a week to decide to attend. He needed about 10 minutes or less to decide even before the financial aid package came about 5 days later!, package arrived in the portal 24 hours before he had to advise admissions of his intention to attend by phone. However his financials were $2K less than his already accepted/committed college, he emailed and advised the fin aid office of this, they said they would not match. DS14 accepted the offer and then 2 hours later, he got an email from admissions stating they were improving his award by the $2K to match previously accepted college offer, DS would have gone regardless to A, but the fact that they matched his offer when admitted from the wait list, blew me away.

Moral of the story, stay hopeful and really dazzle them with new info, visit if you can and state that the school remains you first choice. Good luck

Here we go. Another week. Seems like they’ve gotta be just about done.

@nohelicopter, @sintra, do you remember what time of day those offer emails came in?

@Alliesaysroar, @sophumb, my FA questions weren’t so much about the amount of aid that VC offered. Yes, I saw in the FAQs that the aid package would be the same as RD for those students who get an offer off the waitlist. It’s more about trying to determine whether the need for aid influenced VC’s decision as to who gets offers off the waitlist in the first place. (ie If they think you won’t be able to afford it with the limited FA they have left in the kitty, do they bother making an offer? Especially since they weigh how likely you are to accept the offer.)

@Englishman, congrats on Amherst, and the other schools. Sounds like VC’s waitlist policies might be a little different from Amherst. We were specifically told not to wage a “campaign” to get them in, and that they would NOT be scheduling visits or interviews with waitlisted applicants (in bold print, no less.) Our college advisor was very cautious about following these guidelines and not pissing them off. (Her phrase. Very down-to-earth advisor!) H sent a statement re-iterating her commitment and mentioning some additional achievements. We also sent an additional teacher rec (glowing) and asked a recent alum friend to send a brief note. Not sure if that counts as an unacceptable campaign, but anything less felt like we weren’t even trying.

Bright note - H has started expressing some positive feelings about her accepted school where we put our deposit down. But she’s not going to fully embrace it until the VC door is completely closed.

Good luck out there. Let us know if anyone hears anything.

@kwog64 - she received the email in the morning. BTW She did turn the offer down, and they called late yesterday to confirm this. So maybe there is still a space out there. The email they did send with the offer acknowledged that a long time had passed since she had put herself on the wait list and yes, she had mentally moved on, so they must know there is no guarantee anyone will say yes even if they at first promised to accept an offer, so email them!!

Sunday 6/1. Nothing here. Interesting that @nohelicopter got the re-confirmation call so late in the process. Seems like they’re being pretty methodical, but the FAQs said they’d be pretty much done by end of May.

Anyone else?

@kwog64, my daughter got the email at 5am Friday 5/23. The only thing of note to me was that the region was noted in the email “I’m the person in charge of candidates in Northern California…”
My daughter accepted. I wish you guys the best of luck.

6/5

Thanks and congrats @justadadof4. We’ve pretty much moved on (got that damn “Frozen” song in my head.) Once the message comes saying they’re all finished with the waitlist (as late as July they say) we might ask about transfer application procedures for next year. But for now she’s setting her sights on the plan B school.

The most frustrating part - for me as a parent, anyway - is the lack of explanation. If we could be told “not enough EC’s” or “We already have more than enough NYC kids” or even “Actually, your scores and grades aren’t as impressive as you and your advisor think they are,” that would make a huge difference. Sigh.

Anyway - congrats again to all out there who got the call. And to the rest of us - our kids are still amazing, and they’re gonna do great at whatever college they attend.
