The best part about Lehman is the well-roundedness of all the
employees. Everyone is smart, and more than able to get the job done
right, but is also very capable of interesting conversation and having
another dimension to their life outside of work. That makes the
atmosphere much more collegial and relaxed than other banks might be.
Still somewhat male dominated, and can sometimes feel like a fraternity
atmosphere. However, being a woman I don't feel out of
place at all nor did I feel like that factor affected the work I was
put on. Not very many minorities either, but growing. Lehman has
several diversity groups to encourage awareness, and puts on frequent
events through these groups. Most employees educational backgrounds are
Ivy League. Formal dress code brings air of professionalism, so it
really isnt that bad. Hours are on the lighter side compared to many
investment banks, I think because of the importance placed on having a
life outside of work. That's not to say that you are expected to put in
a lot of hard work to earn recognition. Overall, an excellent firm to
work for if you are going to be signing your life away to investment
banking for a few years.
