Im a community college transfer student from VA, so cost of attendance would include 2-3 years. I have been accepted to decent OOS schools (GaTech, UMD, UT), but I have not heard from my in state choice VaTech yet. If I get admitted to VaTech, then that will be my first choice, but I just want to prepare in case I dont get in.

There is another in-state school, VCU, but its not known for engineering. Its more of an arts school. The costs would be a lot cheaper, and I might not need to take out any loans. Here is a quick breakdown for estimated total costs for 2.5 years:

VCU: $37,500
UMD: $80,000
GaTech: $92,500
UT: $107,500

MechE for all schools except UT
PetroE for UT

Would I be crazy for considering one of the OOS choices? I am leaning towards GaTech, since it has a good reputation and a great career center. Im also drawn to UT because of the opportunity to do petro eng. VCU just seems very mediocre compared to the other schools. Would it be worth it to go OOS?
