Vegetarian/Groceries

Hello all,

This may come across as a strange question, but my friend (who may go to TAMU) was wondering how easy it is to be a vegetarian at TAMU.
Are there many vegetarian options for the meal plan? /B
*If not, are their grocery stores near-by at which he could buy food? *
*Is vegetarianism popular (are there groups of vegetarians, or are they a *very small minority?)

Thank you, everyone!

:)

I am sure your friend will be in good company. I don't know about the meal plan, but there are plenty or grocery stores around. The meal plan should be sufficient though.

Hope this helps!

Thanks nevergettingin, that is comforting.

But I would really like some further detail on the meals offered if anyone knows...if there are not too many things to choose from (other than salads) I'll be the one teaching him how to cook before I leave for college.

It would be fantastically helpful! :)

Thanks.

Howdy! Hope you're finding the info you need.

I tried to be a vegetarian for a while last semester, and I had no trouble finding food to eat. If your friend has a car, that will help a lot, since there are lots of grocery stores with a great variety of stuff. (I recommend HEB, on Texas, though I go to Walmart, too.)
As far as meal plans go, I was always able to find stuff. I was not vegan (I ate cheese, milk, and eggs), though. It might be harder if you're very strict. In the dining halls, there has been at least one vegetarian entree every time I've been there. In the various on-campus restaurants, you have even more options: sandwiches, wraps, pasta, pizza, et cetera, all of which you can get without meat.
However, I strongly recommend learning to cook if you're going to have a kitchen; you can save some money that way. Even if you're in a dorm, skills with a microwave will take you a long way.
Thanks and gig 'em!
