Don't think many of you, or if any, care but I was just thinking..

So at one point while going to a ccc my GPA was down to 2.40 (wow terrible). This was during my 2nd year after Fall 2005 quarter, and since then I've gotten it up to 2.85 after this summer session where I took 10 units (my first 4.0 quarter! lol).

Soo I've signed up for 16 units for this upcoming fall 2006 quarter. I calculated that I'll need a all A's in those classes in order to get my GPA >3.0. The courses I chose were OKAY, not too hard not too easy, but I really hope I can do this because UCSB's transfer agreement requires you to have at least a 3.0 in transferable courses by Fall2006.

If all goes well, I hope to have around >3.1 by the end of winter quarter. I know 3.1 isn't too great of a GPA but, for me, I think would be great coming from a 2.40 when I had about 40-50 units already.

I just wished that I would've told myself that I wanted to get into a UC system earlier instead of thinking, "I'll just go to some CSU w/ a 2.0" attitude.

I hate being discouraging but UCSB requires a MINIMUM of 3.0 to even be considrred. If you only have a 3.1 you will need a ridiculiusly good essay, amazing EC , and a damn good recomendation letter to have any chance.

My .02 don't really matter to you, but I would look at other schools if I were you. I have a 3.4 and applying to University of San Francisco with a minimum of 2.5 and I am still thinking I won't get in. With my 3.4 I am not even applying to UCSB because chances are I won't get in. GPA isn't everything, and the lower yours is the more you need in other categories. UCSB has a rodiculously tough curiculm and I would say that if you have your heart set on it you need to speak with admission over there and then have a ton of ECs this year on top of the all A's to have a chance.

Best of luck.

actually, gshikunov is wrong, i had spoken with a transfer counselor from UCSB and i spoke to him for about an hour of questions...like when should i apply etc. And in one of my questions came the topic of a low gpa as my friend who has a really low gpa, probably close to yours; i mentioned her gpa and he said "we dont like to discourage students who have below a 3.0 because sometimes we accept students below it" their average transfer gpa is really around 2.8-3.0, its ok to be close to it; make sure u write a good essay.

Ah, I was saying that I needed to get at least a 3.0 by Fall in order to qualify for their TAA (transfer agreement).

study. your. ass. off.

I need a 4.0 too to raise my science gpa to become competetive for grad school.

This whole year might determine my future.

good luck to everyone. I think we can do it, it starts by maintaining focus, getting rid of all the distractions and negativity. Lets all come to every class ready to learn.
