VERSION 1-CR Discussion- Proessor and Caribbean/Creole Passage test

I believe the question he is referring to is in the nepotism passage describing the relationship of the second and first passages or something along the lines of that.

Efeens, humility could be true, but how, exactly, are the people showy?
(Ostentatious = Characterized by vulgar or pretentious display)

NO it was APPREHENSION. The end of the first column said that the general public felt “insert synonym for apprehension” :D

That’s a good point, but I really didn’t feel either of the words in the apprehension choice to be right. What was the first word?

And did anyone have a passage about the Mona Lisa? if not i’m guessing that was my experimental.

I too was really confused bw ostentatious-humility and complacent-apprehension. Although it was not included in the given lines of the question, I remember one line right before the highlighted lines mentioning the word apprehension so I picked that one. So like for instance, say question was like from lines 32-36, then I found the word apprehension (or fear w/e something similar) in line 31

I believe it was something along the lines of complacent, with means content/pleased. @Efeens

for nepotism, the relationship was the choice with:
the second passage analyzes the person who benefits

Complacency/Apprehension was right…

Ostentatious/humility doesn’t make sense…

The passage talked about a neatly ordered “merry-go-round” breaking…

yep thats what i meant starktony. the end of the first colum. the line right before the assigned lines

i kind of downplayed the strong connotations of ostentatious when looking at it…even though it wasnt present anywhere, i felt so strongly about humility being a better choice than apprehension but i can definitely see im wrong now

Do you guys remember if the last page, not including the last problem, of the last section was easy or was it tricky? I forgot about that page and did it in like 40 seconds so i skimmed a lot.

does anyone remember question about passage 2 rejects the assumption in passage 1

what was the answer for counterintuitive question on neopotism?

I don’t think so @1994.

Last one was like Creole or Nepotism, I think. Which means it was probably tricky. @Stark

Something about how giving jobs to people will lower their self esteem @1994.

for the Nepotism passage, for the question about comparison, is it one about business, one about beneficiary?

Sorry, I was referring to the writing section with like 12 questions.

I remember for Creole one of the questions was asking about why was the author writing about families and language. It was to

“explain the paradoxical nature” or something like that

@stark

yep got that

What did you guys think is the answer when the professor pointed to his chest?
Manipulative? Or Dramatic?

Also for the colonial era/indepence
which one did you get?

insidious influence?

@Stark I got paradoxical, I think.

@Laura I put beneficiary.

@Muffin Definitely dramatic. He’s a nice guy, not trying to be manipulative.

@starktony826
What do you mean by:
–What does “many people” mean in nepotism passage? I put common something
–Unthinkable?What would the innate language people think of the blank state concept?
is outmoded the same question?

@starktony

I remember for Creole one of the questions was asking about why was the author writing about families and language.

I actually got to given an example blah blah
