because I got in to tulane(safety) ea and I chose to apply to reach schools

EncomiumII - I find people who ***** and moan about people applying to other schools equally annoying.

Most people apply in order to compare financial aid. As you can see in my case, one school gave me more money than the school that accepted me EA. Furthemore a good merit scholarship from a school like Duke or WUSTL, could make it more attractive than Harvard.

Most people want a choice in schools and just apply EA because they believe that they are qualified to be accepted based upon their junior grades. Sometimes, they don't have a clear-cut first choice.

You're being a jackass.

people who get into harvard EA and apply to all other schools are annoying as hell

This is taking a very strategic view. You know how people always whine about some applicants applying to an Ivy that offers ED, just because it will boost their chances of getting into an Ivy? You're taking a very similar view by saying, essentially, that once you get into one of the Ivies/top schools, you should withdraw other apps and "save room for other people." What if, like me (accepted to Yale EA), an applicant wanted to keep his options open (I did)? What if the "best" school doesn't always turn out to be the right school? Honestly, go whine somewhere else. Pay close attention to David's #3 point (above) on the way out.

Encomium, am I right in assuming that post was directed towards me? I feel very comfortable defending my specific apps, if you want to IM/PM me.

Rune + Vivaldi, I'm not sure if I would have been as forthright about it, but you've made the more general arguments for me. Thanks.

hehe - just a little annoyed, that's all. People ought to assume that students applying to elite schools will apply to several, will often have a few tied for "first place" in their minds, and will take a lot of time (sometimes until the last day of April) to decide where they will enroll. People who post things like that out of resentment really bother me. Sorry if I came off a little strong (although I don't think I did).

yea, I'm as annoyed as vivaldi87. It's just that I've had people say the same stuff to me at school and it irritates me everytime I have to defend myself.

they're just really jealous of your awesome nigerian name davidrune. i know i am. :)

Luckily, I haven't had to deal with that sort of thing - no one at my school is applying much higher than Ohio State. Still, it's annoying.

I'm jealous of my own username - my last name is really boring. It would be much cooler if it were Vivaldi. ;)

change it!

hmmm, so andrew vivaldi? i like it!

LOL.....id love to have my mom's maiden name.............then id be Daniel Barattucci!

oooh, that is a good one as well beechbum...er Daniel :)

Then we could both have Italian last names! (My real last name, however, sounds Chinese, even though I'm very, very white - how boring...)

Haha, the local newspaper did an article on me and put the wrong picture in - they put in a picture of one of my friends, who is Asian-American, because they assumed my last name was Chinese.

your last name sounds chinese? LOL! I want to be accepted by Yale just so I can meet you and find out what your last name is. :)

Well, it's very monosyllabic, if that gives you any ideas. Think stereotypical. ;)

well, li/lee would be my first guess. in which case, i say it's a fine name. when i changed my name, i incorporated li into my middle name because i had always wanted to have li as my last name. if it's not, then i guess chan. :)
