so i know we can have a fridge. but the website says we can’t have a microwave?? at orientation our dorms had a fridge and a microwave. and in all the pictures i’ve seen of dorms on bu’s website there are microwaves. so what’s the deal? microwave or no microwave?

It's called a microfridge. You and your roommate can split the rental cost. If you arrange it, the microfridge will be in your room when you move in.

No microwave other than the microfridge.

ohhhhhhhhh okay, that makes a lot more sense. how does it work though? are they like connected to each other or something? and do you have to rent a microfridge or is it better to buy one for yourself?

You rent it. Look it up on the BU site - or google it for a picture. Sits on top of the fridge.

The only legal way to have any type of appliance in your residence is renting a "microfridge" through BU. It is a smaller sized refrigerator with a microwave connected on top of it. They work just like any other except that I'm pretty sure they're really low wattage because the microwave can often take longer than normal but I'm sure this is to reduce fire hazard.

ahhh that kind of sucks though. so i have to pay that $225 fee for renting a microfridge every year? lol.

Most people split the cost with their roommate. And if/when you move into one of the suite-style dorms, you're allowed to have any kind of appliance you want.

You can bring your own fridge if you want. That's what I did and just used neighbors' microfridges if I had to make Ramen or something.

And you can often find fridges for sale.

How much do they usually go for? if you buy one?

If sold by a kid, $35 to $50. You can also buy them at Staples and other places - new - but I don't know what they cost. You could look on craigslist to see.
