Very interesting situation here (what are someones chances)

I realize Borwn is trying to expand its scences program, including the majors Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, Mathematics, and Physics. Now If someone were to apply as one of those majors, they would have a better shot at getting in.

Now second part. Brown(and really all privates) are easier to get into if you can pay 40k a year for it.

Assuming someone is applying for a sciences major, and that they can fully pay 4 years, white male from jersey. what are his chances with the following stats

1420 SAT (800M 620V)
2.9 GPA (ouch i know)
5.1 / 7.0 weighted GPA
118/412 in class (39%)
SAT IIs -
680 bio M
770 M Ic
800 Math IIc
took all the hardest classes available

assume that his mid year grades are excellent

mediocre ECs (1 sport, 2 or 3 clubs) - but shows leadership

Amazing essay that truly shows that this person is curious, and funny

Amazing Interview

Above average recs

Would this person stand any chance whatsoever?

1) While Brown is trying to make all of its departments better as it evolves as a University, there are no plans to increase enrollment or expand the undergrad programs

2) Brown, and all other Ivies are completely need-blind unless there is a place called "jersey" somewhere outside the United States

"this person" may face tougher odds than you orginally thought

Sorry, but your GPA and class rank make it extremely unlikely, and lack of extracurriculars isn't going to help. A lot of people who apply to Brown can pay, and there are lots of white male applicants from Jersey. Brown is interested in strengthening its science programs, but that's not big application points.

You'd have to have something pretty spectacular about you that you didn't write here.

Sorry, I know that's a little harsh. Doesn't mean you have no chance, but it's a long shot. If you're passionate about Brown, apply anyway. You never know.
