Very Lost

I'm very lost as to where to go and my chances at college. I'm Hispanic and would be a first generation college student. I'm entering my senior year this year. My GPA is a 3.75 so far, but I have almost no extracurricular activities. I've been in BETA since freshmen year, I did French club for 1 year, I made the track and field team this year, and have about 50 community service hours. Does extracurricular greatly impact my chances for selective colleges? What are my chances of getting into Loyola Marymount, Amherst, or Lowell?

Have you taken the SAT or ACT yet?

I took it last week

I am trying to help. Can you tell me the full name of BETA?

Have you at least taken the PSAT or PLAN (it is hard to chance without scores)?

Good that you are starting to look at options – your SATs will give you a better idea where to focus your search. Where do you want to be? How far can you travel? What do you want to study? Big university, small liberal arts college? How much can your family afford, and do you qualify for any opporunity programs? Who can you check in with for advice as you proceed with a college search? Ask yourself these basic questions…get your scores…best of luck!

@jennitravels12: how are your SAT scores? since you’re hispanic (and ethnicity really does count, at least sometimes) with a 3.75, I think you’re okay. Try to have really good grades this year. Also, you meant you’ll be a senior in the fall? If so, keep up your senior year grades. I had a minor case of senioritis earlier. Extracurriculars are important. It might be a bit late, but try to find some sort of internship. do more community service. get to know some of the admissions officers. and honestly, really focus on your personal statement. essays/writing=super important!

I took the plan, but I don’t remember getting my scores back, but I just recently took my ACT last Tuesday, so I’m waiting for those scores to get back. I’m in all honors, except for math, and I’m in one AP class, but this fall I’m going to be in 3 AP classes, would taking a couple online classes help with my overall application? I’m able to go to any state for college and financially we’re fine, but I really want to go to a good college in the northeast part of the country, I live in the south.
