Here’s a pretty comprehensive list of schools with a COA of under $30K
http://diycollegerankings.com/public-universities-with-lowest-out-of-state-tuition/978/
For those of us on the East coast, take a look at both PA and MA state universities!
And yet another list:
http://www.greatvaluecolleges.net/affordable/northeast-us/
The title is low cost OOS schools.
The above mentioned schools are IS and without room and board. The net price indicated looks like tuition only, Rutgers is not $16,000 by a long shot
It’s hard to believe, that with such a long list, two great schools are not yet mentioned.
SOUTH DAKOTA SCHOOL OF MINES AND TECHNOLOGY is a great school in terms of academics and career placement. The average starting salary of graduates from SDSMT is often higher than that of Harvard, mainly because the school is an engineering school
Costs for OOS including room and board is about $19,000
http://www.sdsmt.edu/Admissions/Tuition-and-Fees/
The second school is NEW MEXICO TECH
Costs for OOS including room and board is about $15,700
http://www.nmt.edu/tuition-and-fees
Both of these schools have unique programs in explosives, BTW. In SD the program is aimed mainly at mining, but in NM the program is about security issues.
@Dustyfeathers
The quoted figures for New Mexico Tech are PER SEMESTER…so that school won’t fit this thread.
However the South Dakota School of Mines looks good.
This is such an amazing thread! The ranking of these schools shouldn’t matter, right?
For most majors and career goals, ranking doesn’t matter.
You want to be a chemistry teacher, any good school is fine.
What are your stats?
<<<
My family is struggling a lot financially, and even with the financial aid many colleges provide, I’ll have to owe a lot in loans. I am googling for cheaper schools out there & I was wondering if the price affects it. Some are very inexpensive, and I was wondering if the quality of the degree is lower if that is so

How much can your family pay?
^^^
adding to above…
<<<
Unweighted is 3.85 gpa and SAT is 1770 but will be retaken (might switch to ACT

You should retake the SAT (practice the math and CR sections because that’s what merit is based on)…and take the ACT.
What is your current M+CR?
Mentioned in reply #7.
^^^ the above is a list of low-cost schools…
Here are the UMaine schools with low OOS costs. The “yellow area” below shows the merit …check the website for any new changes!!)
The University of Maine at Fort Kent and the University of Maine at Presque Isle
today unveiled a new tuition structure for out-of-state and international students that offers competitive pricing in those markets and also acts as a catalyst for economic development in Aroostook County.
For those students, that means their tuition would see a 40% reduction from $16,560 a year to $9,900 a year. Local economic development leaders are welcoming the rate change and what it means for the area.
