Very Low GPA, High Test Scores, What are my Chances? (I'll Chance you back)

<p>What are my chances for DePauw, Bates, University of Washington, University of Wisconsin, Hamilton, Colby, Lehigh?</p>

<p>Bates and Hamilton are my two favorites right now and will apply EDI to one and EDII to the other</p>

<p>GPA: Unweighted 3.1
Weighted: 4.0
No class rank - best guess around top 25% of 1000 students in class</p>

<p>ACT: 33 (Best Subscores: 35 English, 35 Math, 36 Science, 29 Reading)</p>

<p>I took challenging courses, 2 or 3 honors classes a year. Competitive High School.</p>

<p>Senior Classes: AP Calc AB, AP Stats, AP Bio, Philosophy, Jazz Band, Writing Seminar, Consumer</p>

<p>Extracurriculars: Golf Team 4 years - Plan to play in college - I could play at any of the above aside from U of Wash and U of Wis</p>

<p>Jazz Band - All 4 years, Track 1 year, Intramural basketball 2 years, Radio 2 years, Summer Job</p>

<p>Is your GPA lower because of a rough freshman year with improving trend since then, or do you generally do poorly in just one subject area with high grades in everything else? Or are you a consistent B student? Can your low grades be explained by something that affected you in high school but that won’t be a factor in college? The LACs on your list will look at you as an individual and evaluate you as more than just a number (3.1). Your GPA is low for Hamilton and Bates, but not completely out of reach. Yours is a case where the particulars of your transcript may be very important.</p>

<p>I think you have a good chance of getting into these schools academically. You didn’t really specify what you wanted to do, are you going just for golf?</p>

<p>Overall though, you have a decent chance. Very good ACT score, thats a big bonus.</p>
