Very plain application?

With the unusual deadlines for interviews and art supplements, I'm going to turn in a very plain and generic application/supplement to Rice.

I was expecting to get interviews and send in an art portfolio for all of my schools of choice, but, obviously, I can't with Rice because I was too stupid to look up the deadlines ahead of time.

I was wondering if there was any way I could try to stand out?

I would just have to say that you should work on making your supplement not generic. There is still time to work on it.

I wrote a large part of my supplement the day the application was due. Granted, I had been thinking about what I wanted to write weeks ahead of time, but the actual writing mostly took place on the last day.

Granted, I wouldn’t recommend this. I got really lucky–REALLY lucky. But what I’m saying is there is still plenty of time, so if you work on your supplement now you should be able to get it done and make it unique. Good luck!

FallenAngel - That is impressive.

I would argue that it was lucky more than impressive; I was fortunate that I was translating my thoughts into words more easily than usual. Granted, I knew exactly what I wanted to write, I just had to write it. So it wasn’t quite as much work as one might think.

I was a bit in over my head trying to apply to so many schools while taking six APs. haha

Well, good thing that it worked out. I think I had my Rice one done a few weeks ahead, although it was one of the easier ones to write. It was in my head and I managed to belt it out in a matter of hours.

Honestly, I think waiting until the last minute can be helpful in certain circumstances, especially if you tend to over think things. I wrote the essay for my Northwestern application in about 45 minutes and I think it was the strongest one I wrote. The Rice essay, on the other hand, I worked on for days, and it turned out pretty boring.

Well art stuff is quite different, but I also did my Rice supplement as on October 31st. It was good enough to get me in ED, so I guess it wasn’t too bad haha. I’m the kind of person who works best under pressure…a nicer way to say major procrastinator.
