Our son has received no financial aid other than small federal loans, for which ultimately he is responsible. Unfortunately SMU which is far and away his top choice is not attainable financially. It's perplexing the school could not provide even a little as $5000-10000 would have made the difference in this case. Any suggestions?

During the admissions process, did you or you son develop a relationship of any sort with any of the admissions officers, school administrators, etc.? If so, you might want to give that person a call and talk with him.

If not, I can’t see how it would hurt to give a call to the admissions office or the undergraduate recruitment person in the school of your choice.

The worst case scenario is that nothing changes.

When we visited SMU over this past spring break, everyone we talked to encouraged and welcomed communication.

Write them and schedule a visit to meet with the financial aid office. I have heard of one of two people talking to them and showing true financial need and then getting some.

Ty,

Did SMU’s net price calculator indicate that your FA package would be better than what you received?

Thanks to all for the suggestions. To: standrews yes the net price calculator indicated a much different scenario (higher aid). We are exploring many options to make this work out. Hoping for the best.
