I’m hoping to get accepted into Allegheny College in PA, but I was looking for some honest opinions of my chances, as I feel I may be delusional.
I didn’t do too well in High School due to unusual circumstances. My parents died while I was in middle school, and the subsequent custody battle among relatives resulted in me going to six different schools, in three different states, in five years. It had a negative effect on both my attitude and GPA. I joined the military right after graduation (2011, Florida) and really pulled myself together. (This is a summarized version of what I wrote in my application essay, for the record.)
Anyways, I applied to Allegheny with:
GPA: 2.5
SAT (math+reading): 1250
ACT: 28
And a glowing recommendation from my Commanding Officer in place of a Guidance Councilor (I called admissions and received permission for this).
I don’t think my chances are exactly stellar, but I’m very drawn to this school. I understand that I’m banking on the school being convinced that my military experience has turned me around.
Realistically, what are my expectations here?
