Veterinarian School Financial Aid for Internationals?

Hi,
I'm currently a freshman at a US university, and I'm considering becoming a vet in the future. I tried searching the Internet, but there is almost no information available regarding the subject, especially on the financial part of it. I know that vet schools expect US citizens to take loans, but internationals are not eligible for federal loans. Are there any other types of financial aid for non-citizens? To be able to attend I'll need the full amount (or nearly so) of the cost of attendance as either loans or scholarships.
Any tips or information will be appreciated.
Thanks!

Think about it…if U.S. Vet schools expect their own citizens to mostly use loans, then why would they award MORE aid to those from other countries?

There is not much aid available for veterinary school.

You will need to look at veterinary programs in your home country. Or figure out a way to get loans from a bank in your home country.

thumper1, I’m not asking for more aid, I’m just asking if it’s available for internationasl at all.

Kkmama, unfortunately, there’s no way for me to get loans in my country.

Prostozina,

As I understand it, there are very few cases in which federal loan money is available for non-citizens. You’d need to be a US National, have a permanent resident or resident alien card, or be in the US on official asylum.

Your best bet may be private loans, but for those you’ll likely need a US citizen to co-sign, and you’re looking at roughly $200k in loans over 4 years.

You might try putting the question to a financial aid specialist at your university. Your career center may be of help, too.

Good luck to you.

timeflew, thank you, that’s what I thought.

Shizz, I hate loans! D:
