Hey there.
I'm currently in year 12 (British system.. I think that is a Junior in the American system) and I am sooo interested in doing Musical Theatre in the US. For the audition process, I think it'll be too much of a hassle to be traveling around for the auditions. Also, I will be having final exams in year 13..
I know that Boston Conservatory accepts video auditions. If anyone knows of any others which do so as well, that would be very helpful :)

(I live halfway around the world so a video audition is most suitable for me, but if I must, I'll have to make arrangements/sacrifices :P)

PS. Do these affect my chance of getting accepted?

Sorry to not be able to give you a list of which schools accept video submissions (and if I were you, I would not rely on a message board for that but would email each school and ask directly). I know Syracuse does.

I understand the travel limitations given where you live. While I have heard of people being admitted to BFA in MT programs via video, I don't think it is that common and my opinion is that it WILL affect your chance of getting accepted and will lessen the odds for you compared to those who do a live audition. The odds of admission to BFA in MT programs are already tough and this would make them a longer shot.

Since travel is difficult and expensive, perhaps you could make ONE trip....to do Unifieds and any schools that hold auditions in that city around the time of Unifieds, and possibly if you stayed a tiny bit longer, add on a campus audition or two if they are within days of Unifieds. Everyone has to miss some school and everyone has exams and such and so that part is not that different for you. What's different is the distance and expense and thus making ONE trip may be what you have to do. And if you can't fit enough auditions into that one trip, then consider a video submission to some other schools as a back up but realize those are less likely to come through (but could!).

PS... a member who posts here, JennyD123, is from England too and she is a senior at NYU/Tisch. I do not know if she applied Early Decision or Regular Decision but I imagine she came over to NYC to audition and you may wish to discuss it with her via Private Message. Just a thought. I've met her and she is a lovely and talented young woman.

My daughter was accepted to Shenandoah Conservatory via a DVD audition. I agree that checking with individual schools is a good plan of action. Some will consider your particular circumstance differently than other students applying.

I would third checking with the schools. It may not always be listed on the website. At James Madison University we will accept an audition DVD if a student has extenuating circumstances, but we do not put that on the website, because we prefer live auditions.

Over the past two years five people have been accepted off of DVD auditions.... I think that is out of about 40 audition DVDs.

You may want to look into doing Unified auditions. This would allow you to make one trip and audition for a number of schools in one location of a few day period.

Also -- are you looking at schools in the UK that offer Musical Theatre? I believe there is a woman who posts here.... who is from the UK, she may have some suggestions to look at over there.

Thank you all so much for your suggestions!!
I may consider going to the unifeds but it really depends on when they are. I'll definitely keep it in mind :)!!

Also I have done research on schools in the UK and a lot of them are just courses and the university degree aren't really for me. :/

By the way, I don't live in the UK :)
I go to a British school in Hong Kong (not sure if this makes a difference but yeah :P). Ohh and I will also apply to some schools in Australia.

Thanks very much for your help.

Now I have a year to prepare before college applications and auditions! :D
