When I visisted IU at the beginning of summer they told me they were planning on doing a pre-screening video submission audition to narrow down the number of auditioners they’ve been getting on campus. It makes sense because they are a large state school. Does anyone else know about this? I assume that if they do this these videos would be due earlier than most auditions.

I don't have specific knowledge about IU prescreening; however, I would truly think with the ever-growing # of students auditioning, the plan has merit.

For the schools that I know that do pre-auditions, and for many music schools who do pre-screenings, the CD/DVD is generally due sometime between 11/1 - 12/1. This may not be the time frame IU follows, though.

My daughter sent in her pre-audition video last month. They sent an email back to her saying they received all her materials and would be getting back to her shortly. We still haven't heard anything. Has anyone else received confirmation to audition for IU's MT program yet?

On the websites it says dates that people will know by. Maybe they are letting everyone know at the same times on those dates. I still have to send mine in.

My daughter sent in her video and received the same email. I spoke to the department and they said that pretty much everyone who goes through the trouble of sending in the packet (and has a reasonable amount of talent) will be invited to audition. The pre-screening process is basically to deter those without talent and those who are not serious about a career in musical theatre from coming to the audition. They said that they do not want an "American Idol" open call. I think they are right. Anyone who takes the time to make the tape and complete the entire audition packet must be pretty serious about this. They still are expecting to audition many people for this freshman class. Hope this helps.

Thanks tinymay for the information - - it definately helped. I also looked on the website, as suggested by knarfydna, and it said all people that pre-auditioned should hear back from the department by December 20.

Yes, I know someone who called today to find out if all his materials had been received. He was told that they had already decided that he would be offered an audition.

Congratulations and Break a Leg to all the prospective Hoosiers. I think you'll find the campus gorgeous, the facilities amazing and the people just wonderful. If you need any suggestions about lodging, food, etc just send me a PM.

I spoke to the MT department today to change my daughter's audition date. I asked how many kids will be auditioning and I was told that so far, there are about 150 scheduled, but they expect many more to come in before the deadline. Just wanted to let you guys know.
