Has anyone gotten a catalog/viewbook-type thing ("A Guide to Yale College, 2011-2012") in the mail? Does anyone know the criteria they used for whom to send them to? Some of my friends in different parts of the country have been getting them. I was just curious.

Thanks.

Usually they send mailings like that based on PSAT or SAT scores, as they harvest your mailing adress from college board. But they usually have a pretty low cutoff for scores (meaning they send mailings both to people with good scores and to people who will probably not have a good chance of getting into Yale).

It is just advertising. Yes, they will have some form of criteria (as above, getting various scores from Cboard) but getting one of these does not mean they want you/know about you.

I got the “YALE*” blue viewbook in the mail the other day. Actually, I received two of them. I believe I received one because I signed up for an on-campus interview this summer and the other because of a very good SAT score that I had sent directly to them.

I got the Yale* viewbook today! Very excited, but I prolly have no shot at getting in… Shame because it is my first choice! Oh and I just noticed mine says 2010-2011…, is anybody else’s from the prior admissions cycle?

I got one last week (it says 2011-2012). Not sure if it’s because I signed up for an on-campus interview or because of PSAT scores, but either way, it looks good!

Maybe they ran out of new ones or accident… Ha either way I’m just glad I got it

Haha, don’t worry too much, you will soon (if not already) be inundated with mail from both Ivy-League schools and schools you have never even heard of :P
