I agree with ChiDad. Villanova was my first choice and fortunately for me I was accepted and now attend. But looking back at the whole process I sometimes realize how ridiculous it sounded that I HAD to go to Villanova. As much as I love it here I sometimes wonder what it would have been like to go to another school. Villanova is a great school but theres nothing THAT special about it. There are tons of other amazing schools! You may not be believe me now (I certainly wouldn't have believed someone either) but at this time next year you probably will understand what I'm trying to say.

Villanovagirl--- You have given very good advice. My D is a sophomore at Villanova and just loves it. It was her first choice and was thankful to be accepted. She has since watched her brother go through the college admission process much differently. He has many excellent choices and does not have his heart set on any one school. As a parent, I now see that there are many great schools out there for half the price of Villanova. I know her happiness is worth every penny but I can't help think that my son will be as happy for a fraction of the price.
Good Luck to all.

Did anyone receive the Presidential Scholars letter?

My D rec'd nice letter from Presidential Scholarship Commitee saying her "superior academic ability and accomplishment" qualify her as a candicate for the scholarship. It says she will shortly be hearing from Admissions (20TH?)

Maggyd, congratulations to you and your D. Do you mind telling us her grades, test scores etc? I'm in the dark as to the requirements for this scholarship.

Did anyone else receive the Presidential Scholarship letter?

Maggyd, my daughter received the letter this afternoon. Very interesting opportunity!

got that letter this afternoon....it basically said I got in but not really....go NOVA

i had a 3.52GPA (upward trend junior year was really high) and 1500SAT, 770Math 730 CR Think i have a shot of getting in EA. My SATs qualify me for the president scholarship, my GPA is just really low.

ahh im so mad--i was one point away from the presidential scholarship..i took the ACTs again a few weeks ago and pretty sure i got above a 32, am i eligible once they get these scores?

I got the presidential scholar letter...

GPA: 4.1/4.0
SATS: 2240 (total), 800CR, 700M, 740W

Yearbook editor in chief, varsity field hockey captain, president of an outside organization.. and my essays (in my opinion) were quite good. I talked about learning to sacrifice for the benefit of others (selling my pony to financially benefit my family, even though he was probably one of the most important aspects of my life.. I had been riding since infancy (literally)..)

I'm not sure if receipt of the presidential scholars letter means that I am actually in... It says ""Shortly, you will be hearing from the Office of University Admission regarding your application for admission to Villanova." I called the office to ask, and they said officially no... but I asked "unofficially" and the guy said "probably yes, but check back on the 20th to be sure officially." So I'm hoping I'm in!!

what are the requirements for this? i have a 3.82 GPA unweighted (take all honors and aps) and a 710/710/790 SAT and didn't get the letter.

i think you need a 3.85

i really hope im in!!

Criteria
Effective 2007-2008, to be eligible for consideration for this full-tuition scholarship, students must score at least 700 on the mathematics and 700 on the critical reading or verbal portions of the SAT or have an ACT composite score of 32 and have a grade point average of 3.85 on a 4.00 scale. All grade point averages are taken cumulatively at the end of the sixth semester, and all SAT or ACT scores must be received from the College Board or ACT by November 1. By early January, the scholarship selection committee will invite eligible students to complete a scholarship application and will consider each applicant on the basis of his or her scholarship essay, performance on the SAT writing section, teacher recommendation, and high school and community involvement. Candidates who are selected as finalists and who are interviewed for the Presidential Scholarship, but not selected as recipients, will be awarded a $ 12,500 Villanova Scholarship. Awards totaling $ 1,541,000 were offered to 47 Presidential Scholars for the 2006-2007 academic year. This award can be applied only to tuition charges billed by Villanova University during the academic year (i.e., during the fall and spring semesters).

Wildchild...you are in...they aren't going to invite you to apply for this scholarship unless you are being admitted. We went through a similar process with our other child with even more time between getting the scholarship letter and the admissions letter. Congrats, you are in. Enjoy!

Anyone definitely attending?
I'm 90% sure I am. :)

what are the stats of an accepted early applicant? im really nervous about this...
