Villanova ED - "Awaiting Direct Loan Entrance Counseling process"

My daughter applied ED to Villanova. Today I noticed on her Application Status Page that there was a red X at the bottom of the financial aid checklist that said “Direct Loan Entrance Counseling Process.” I believe this is something that you have to do once you are accepted and if you are getting need based aid. I looked at a regular decision thread from last year and some people had it pop up on their list and others didn’t. Some thought it was a good sign, others didn’t know. I didn’t see any final information about whether there was a correlation with the people that had this and those that got in. Anyone know?

I have the same thing on my application and I also applied ED. I have no idea what it means though

My daughter tried to log in this morning and the portal is down.

I had it in this morning, but then it went away. Maybe they were not supposed to put it out yet. I also applied ED.

Her portal is back up but nothing is there about the direct loan. I wonder why they took it down.

My daughter’s is not listed anymore either. I saw on the thread from last year that the same thing happened - was there one day and then gone. Anyone have any information about when on Friday they will let people know?

I heard most colleges usually announce between 5-7pm, idk if that goes for Villanova as well, just a guess

GPA is below average. SAT is also below average. It helps that you have legacy. EC’s are decent. Hopefully you don’t live in PA, NJ, or NY, or your chances go significantly down. Good luck! @nmerriman

Best of luck to everyone. My D had the same thing on her portal last year and she was accepted. Don’t want to give you false hope but we took it as a good sign and it was!

My daughter got in ED! She had that “direct loan counseling” on her list earlier in the week, so I guess it was a good sign.

My D received this on her application status. She is ED. “Financial aid packages for students who completed an application for need-based aid will be posted to the Applicant Status Page by March 29, 2018. You will receive notice via email when they are posted” Do you think that means there is HOPE of her receiving financial aid?

We have the same message as well. My guess is its a generic update to the application status page. Didn’t get much from Bryn Mawr and I have a feeling Villanova will be the same. Fingers are heavily crossed as this is where she wants to go.

@blowfish7494 is your daughter ED, EA or R? Mine is ED and she was already accepted but never received any Financial Aid letter or scholarship although she applied to Fin Aid.

She was EA and was accepted EA thus we have been waiting for what seems like ever for the FA decision. We applied for FA from day one and have been diligent about following up with them for whatever documents they needed from us. I ended up scanning and submitting through IDOC at least 130 documents - not pages mind you 130 different documents. It got to be almost comical as it seemed as soon as I sent one thing they wanted they asked for 3 more. I have had numerous email chats with FA for 3 months now. I hope and pray they can give us a good offer as its the only way we can send our daughter to Villanova. It is clearly her first choice at the moment. If not here then she will most likely be going to UVA (waiting to see what they can offer as well). Accepted to Bryn Mawr also but their offer was horrible and would leave us with way too much to pay. Essentially it is Villanova or UVA now.

Thank you. In my case no financial aid will be awarded. I am hoping for merit scholarship. Crossing fingers.

@BellaCulen merit scholarships at Villanova have to be applied for and the student has to fit into the parameters outlined by each merit award. Unfortunately, Nova is not like a lot of other colleges that award them automatically based on academic credentials. They did offer a new merit aid scholarship this year (Augustinian scholarship) but only 80 15k scholarships were available and you had to be asked to apply. Not sure if you had mentioned prior if you had applied for any… didn’t get to read through the entire thread. Hope you get what you need to attend!

@pkchamp89 thank you for your feedback!!! Definitely not asked to apply.
