Villanova Honors / Scholarships Discussion

Heh. I got nothing. 4.3 WGPA (3.96UW) at the highest rigor my school allows and 1540 SAT. First-generation college student from Lebanon. Captain of XC and Track which I did tri-season for 4 years. Paid writer for a web startup. Lifeguard. President of NHS, officer in several leadership and debate clubs. I don’t think I came off as the average nerd in my essay either.
Whelp, crossing Villanova off, cause lord knows I can’t afford it!

@queennadia01 Congrats!! I guess it wouldn’t make sense to invite people to apply for the St. Augustine scholarship if they already applied for the Presidential Scholarship

So if one is not invited to apply to the St. Augustine scholarships, there are no other scholarships? Dd got into the honors program but wasn’t invited to apply. We can’t afford to pay $45,000 more for Villanova each year than what we’d be paying other colleges that offered very generous scholarships.

@marcerino Yes, it seems the scholarship invites are based on holistic review and perhaps other aspects. I am guessing my S was not invited due to the fact he was nominated for Presidential Scholarship and pretty much turned it down by not submitting essays. I am sure they take these things into consideration. No big loss for him, however, because even with the scholarship, we feel money better spent at ND. Good luck to you!

@Mjkacmom there are other scholarships listed on the Villanova webpage here https://www1.villanova.edu/villanova/admission/affordable/scholarships.html.

I finally got an Honors invite via email today. Also, for anyone confused on the process, I applied for the Presidential Scholarship and was invited to apply for St. Augustine. Haven’t heard back about Presidential scholarship but I can confirm that applying for that would not rule you out of an invite to apply for St. Augustine as @Jacobthebest1 suggested may have been the case.

I’m kinda confused. I applied to the Honors program on my common app, and I got an email at 4pm today saying I’m “cordially invited to a presentation for Admitted Honors Program Candidates, Class of 2023.” Does this mean I got into Honors? Also I got the St. Augustine invitation email yesterday around 4pm and ik I have to apply for that

S got regular mail on tues about honors college. Then email on thurs with invitation to presentation about honors college in Feb as well as regular mail invitation. No email about St. Augustine scholarship.

*Wednesday, not thurs.

@WineLover Well, your good luck wishes were answered quickly! Yesterday, I was accepted into Northeastern with a huge amount of merit and aid money! Good luck to your son with ND, I’m sure he’ll thrive there.

@marcerino Congrats!! You will love Boston! And they have a great co-op program. All the best!!

does anyone know when presidential scholarship decisions come out?

@marcerino I also got accepted to Northeastern honors program yesterday. Just curious if they offer similar packages for merit scholarship. I received $24,000/yr for merit.

@erinm0412 Looks like the past 2 years presidential finalist decisions came out on
Jan 25th so maybe tomorrow?

@LIsenior I received $20k in merit on top of a generous grant. Merit seems to range from $10-30k from what I’ve seen.

Nothing about presidential scholarship today; I am getting very anxious. Does anyone know when it is coming out?

Waiting patiently for info about presidential scholarship too!!

Now this is really interesting. No disrespect to Villanova, but I am still kind of shocked about my son not getting nominated for Augustine Scholarship. He has a 36 ACT, strong course rigor, great ECs, went to Jesuit HS, lots of service, powerful Villanova essay. He was nominated for PS, but did not submit essays (perhaps this was reason?). Anyway, the really shocker is that this morning he was nominated for a $25K per year scholarship at Notre Dame. Tell me there isn’t something wrong with Villanova’s decision. Very strange. @marcerino thought you might be interested to hear

Waiting for info on any scholarship for my daughter. Accepted into Honors Program and applied for Presidential. No word about St. Augustine either. It’s disappointing as Villanova is her absolute #1! We won’t be able to afford without some help and similar to most where 25k scholarships are being handed to her everywhere competitive. Really hoping we haven’t heard about St. Augustine because we are still in the running or Presidential (which would be phenomenal). @WineLover, your son has very similar stats to my daughter and I’m residing myself to the fact that they are in the running for Presidential. Thanks to all for the updates and good luck to everyone.

@hikewithd it just doesn’t make sense on how they selected candidates for the scholarship. I do hope your daughter has a shot at PS, especially considering it is her first choice. Perhaps a letter to the AO indicating that and asking that the message be passed on to the scholarship folks…just a thought. For my son, he is definitely going to ND, especially now that he has a shot at merit as well!

@WineLover This is our oldest and are just learning the “rules”. We are nervous about this entire process. Would having her email the AO be frowned upon? She is going to attend EAC weekend in a couple of weeks. Honestly, if she was a bit more forceful during the application process, we would’ve had her apply ED. Again, being our first, we are just learning about this process from all of you on this board.
