Hi, I'm a parent just wondering, why is this moniker given to Villanova? My D is looking into the school, and has another choice in the Baltimore area. Tons of stuff to do in the Baltimore/DC area. How about the Villanova area? We visited, it's a really beautiful campus, but seems like there's not much to do in the immediate area. Is there a "college town" ? I wasn't able to find anything close to one. I know this is not a priority in choosing a college, but I must admit, it is a factor. I feel if there is boredom, there is drinking. Any help?

My D is a sophomore at Villanova and laughs when she hears it described at "Villa-no-fun". She has a lot of fun. She has never felt an excessive amount of boredom. There is always something to do and Philly is not far. In fact, she is going to a Philadelphia 76er's vs. Celtics game at the Wachovia Center tomorrow night. There are plenty of clubs to join and there is also plenty of studying to do. There are times throughout the year my D has complained of the heavy workload. For what I am paying for tuition, I feel I'm getting my money's worth. :)

well, there definitely is not a college town here. if your D wants to join a sorority, she will have a lot more to do, but 99% of that involves drinking. basically, anything to do at college involves drinking...... it is college. the sports games are fun sober, though most people do not go sober. i dont think that's because of villanova... people tend to drink when theres NOT boredom more so than when there is..

oh, and king of prussia mall is here which is a plus

They have a metro train going right through campus which will take students to Philly. I personally know a lot of people who go to Nova and LOVE IT. They are NEVER bored there.

I think Vanill-no-fun is a false stereotype....
