Villanova scholarship

Well, they obviously have changed the system if they are only offering $1,000 for it. But when I did it, I thought everyone got something, it was just a matter of how much money.

Does anyone know when they notify Villanova Scholarship winners? Do we need to wait until the end of March when the whole financial aid package comes out?

As with pd2012, would be interested to know this as well.

Also, if an applicant was nominated for the Presidential and then selected for consideration for the Villanova Scholarship, any experience that the student will receive some money under through one of the scholarships?

according to the website, scholarship notification (other than Presidential) is April 1

My son recently had his Villanova Scholarship interview with the alumnus, and it was typical to any of the other alumni interviews he has done with other schools. Very cordial and low key, discussing the college, his extracurriculars, etc. Seems they just want to get a sense of the student. I can’t imagine it has that big of an influence over whether the student gets the scholarship or not, because it’s done by hundreds of alumni all over the country. Alum opinions will be inconsistent and subjective, just like other alumni admissions interviews at colleges - they are “considered” as part of the process, but not a major influence on any decisions. I think it’s the same for the Villanova Scholarship interview. Knowing what the lower end of the scholarship is, however (1,000) I am curious what the upper end is. I’ve read as high as 8,000 or 10,000 or maybe a bit more, but it does say on their website that the average is somewhat above 5,000/year. Still not a lot in relation to the cost of attending the school… but 5,000 is better than 1,000.

Any money is better than no money, although more money is better. Still trying to figure out why a private school BA costs upwards of $240,000. Heck, even at the UCs in California, you are looking at roughly 1/2 (gross with no financial aid or merit money) that if your kid doesn’t live at home, and that seems hard to fathom.

My daughter got an interviewer that works at the school so she will be headed up this week for her interview. Does anyone know when notifications for the Presidential scholarship come out? That’s the interview that we are hoping for!

I think the notifications come up on myNova sometime this week. Interviews for that would be in March
