Villanova School Of business vs. Wake CAlloway

I have been accepted to VSB and wake but cant decide I have till may 12th btw so I need help fast. I know wake is 2year bus. program but what are your opinions about the two schools?

Two great choices but sometimes that makes the decision even harder.
They are both top 20 ranked business schools (per Business Week) and I’m sure you can’t go wrong with either. Villanova was ranked slightly ahead of Calloway last year; this year I believe it’s the opposite. To me, that means they are virtually identical in terms of educational experience, alumni network, job placement, etc.

Villanova gives you the advantage of admission to VSB from day one, while you would have to apply to Calloway as an enrolled undergrad. Acceptance into Calloway, as you probably already know, is not guaranteed and seems to be influenced in part by the number of other students applying. I’ve also read on the Wake threads about grade deflation, which might also influence your decision. (On a more positive note, Wake seems likes an amazing, special place and our family fell in love with it when we visited.)

You might want to consider making the decision based on which college you prefer overall, since both business schools will open many doors for you.

Than you for the post. I do have a tough decision. VSB is from day one which is nice. It is also has a pretty cool finance lab. I have not heard about typical grades at Nova do you know by any chance? I have heard about the huge workload and grade deflation at Wake which is a turnoff. Do you think Villanova is too strict are there any ocns to going there? any about WAke?

if youre worried about a heavy workload, then dont come to college at all…the idea that you’ll somehow get away without doing any work is ridiculous

I’m a freshman business student at Villanova, and to be honest the workload hasn’t been that overwhelming. I’ve actually found it easier than HS, but that will depend on your high school. So from what I know, I’d say Wake is definitely more harsh in terms of grading as well as the overall courseload. That’s not to say that Villanova’s expectations of you are lower, it’s just the way a school is run and it also depends on the individual.

Here is a thread from late March about VSB and the workload, that may be of some help to you. If you look back further on both the Villanova and WFU threads, I’m sure you can find additional information.

Here is another link to a thread that discusses the pros and cons of Villanova in general. I know there are similar ones on the WFU threads.

1390 relax man, when everything you hear about a college is the workload and grade deflation that says something. I am willing to work dont get me wrong Ive worked hard throughout highschool. I am simple asking if the workload is overbearing why would I work 10x as hard at wake to get a low gpa when people at say UNC do half the work with a better GPA. I want a balance between work and fun as does anybody going to college.

again i wouldnt base a decision off of horror stories that youve heard. college is more work than hs. surprise!

i dont know much about vsb other than that its ranked in the top 20 by buisiness week/us news and has a solid rep from D.C. to Boston, especially in Philly of course. my brother is graduating from wake calloway in two weeks however and is very thankful for his “work forest” education. wake is very challenging both in the amount of work students have to do and in the difficulty of that work, but students come out extremely ready for the professional business world. he is working for goldman sachs in new york starting in july and many of his friends have found jobs at other respected firms up and down the east coast. yes, there is grade deflation, but wakes rep is really growing and employers are starting to take the deflation into account when evaluating wake graduates. as far as spending the first two years outside the business school and then having to apply its just like anything work hard freshman and sophomore year and the rewards will come. i see it as a just to get in a solid liberal arts education before heading into the pragmatic and pressure packed world of business as an upperclassmen but i kno some people really arnt into the whole liberal education thing. o he had a lot of fun too but sometimes became frustrated with the southern frat culture thats very prevalent at wake.

ultimately though both schools are excellent and as long as you work hard for four years you’ll be able to get more or less where you want to go following graduation no matter where you choose. both schools are very enthusiastic about sports and have a lot of schools spirit, and id say just decide whether you feel more comfortable in the northeastern, suburban kinda preppy environment or the traditional, southern, greek environment because you really will meet amazing people and get a great education at either place.
