Violinists : What is your audition repertoire ?

As a parent of a violinist that is now a sophomore in a BM Violin Perf program (2022), I’m curious to know what pieces you all have prepped for your auditions.

My son performed the Dvorak Violin Concerto, Bach Sonata #2, Paganini Caprice #13, A couple of Dont Etudes (And a couple of others that I forget).

Note : this is not intended to be competitive in anyway, I think it would be a good idea for newer people on the board, especially those that will audition next year or later, to get an understanding of the range of pieces.

Also, for other instruments, maybe there can be similar threads ?

I’m Playing Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, Bach Partita No. 1, Paganini Caprice No. 17 and 13 (only one school asks for 2 caprices so I’ll do 17 for the ones that only need 1), Brahms Sonata No. 2 and Lutoslawski Subito. Undergrad.

@gram22 Dvorak concerto starts with rich and gorgeous double stops. Playing them in front of the audition panel would have required gats!

@yfgntf123 The pieces you choose, have not only difficult techniques but also great musical aspect! Good luck with your auditions!

Here is a good article for those who need to choose the audition rep. next year or in the future: https://www.robknopper.com/blog/2017/10/9/1pchchidf4rfue7ihzmxa5ilhdmxqh

My S’s BM rep. were : Brahms Violin Concerto, Mozart Violin Concerto No.5, Bach Sonata No.1, Paganini Caprice No.24, Ernst “The Last Rose of Summer” (as “one virtuoso piece” and “another etude”), Takemitsu “Elegy” (as “post-1960 piece”)
