I never had any contact with Drexel before...ever. I went to visit UPenn and didn't visit or even look at Drexel, except for seeing a flag of it. I still got one

Yeah, I did the very same thing. I believe the VIP thing may be based on GPA or some other number transmitted by the College Board service. I'll do it anyway - why not, if it isn't binding? I can't apply early to my other colleges anyway.

Hmm, apparently the process is accelerated b/c it goes through Royall & Company, a recruiting firm @ Royall & Company :: Higher Education Recruitment :: Richmond, VA

How badly does Drexel need applicants?

lol, there's a business for college advertising?

...

I did get the Drexel VIP application which I sent in and I got other of those similar applications that's free with no essay and no necessary teacher recommendation from Tulane, Hofstra, St. Johns and a bunch of other schools

I got it in the mail (Drexel sends me SO much stuff and then follow-up things, saying "I'm so glad you've shown interest..." when I haven't done anything at all). I definitely got the impression that it was NOT binding. For sure.

@ Vladsinger:

Royall calls this strategy “Fast Application”:

“Fast Application
The Fast Application program transforms the traditional application for admission into an active, powerful promotional platform. This program leads to an average 25% increase in applications, plus a lift in average SAT scores, and ultimately, increased enrollments.”–http://www.royall.com/services.html#need2

Ha ha this application promotion seems like a primitive accumulation of capitalism to me … all kinds of options are on when the school tries to scramble… >.<
Way after this application season ends you guys got to see the result whether this VIP app or the normal app yields more. Theres no previous data for this … It’s been the 1st year of it yes?

I got one of these too. I get about a dozen emails or pieces of mail a day from Drexel. I’m not using it - it still costs $10 to send you SAT scores and it costs me $20 to send a secondary school report. No way. Plus I’d never go to Drexel anyways - it doesn’t fit me.

I applied last year, although i didnt receive a VIP application (my friends did even though my stats were much better than some , idk how they decide on who receives it.) It was not binding last year as my friends applied there via the VIP application but are attending a different college.

if u apply via the VIP application, are teacher recommendations required?

im filling mines out right now…

so i just got this vip app thing in the mail too

i have MANY questions so sorry, but the help would be much appreciated

do we have to fill out the common app in addition to this?
did those who were accepted into this, receive a lot of scholarships or money from drexel?
it says in the letter i got that no long essay but just a short personal statement? what exactly are we supposed to do for that?
do we need teacher recommendations and all that stuff too??
are vip applicants looked at more highly than regular applicants?

thanks so much

phillyJman, I did the VIP app last year so I can answer some of those questions…

You DON’T have to do the common app in addition to the VIP app.

I got $14.5 in Dean scholarship, and that was pretty much it. My friend’s got less though for the same scholarship, but they also did the VIP app, so I don’t think it makes any difference.

For the personal statement, I don’t remember exactly, but it was just a short paragraph or two about you. It wasn’t that hard so I wouldn’t worry much.

I don’t think teacher recommendations are required, but I don’t remember? I don’t remember doing it…

I’m not sure, but I THINK VIP apps and regular apps are looked on the same. I would suggest applying earlier though if you want a better shot.

I’m only applying because it’s free. :)

“im only applying because its free”

first of all its NOT free. you still have to pay money to send your SAT scores and other stuff they might ask for.

second of all. you shouldn’t just apply somewhere “because its free” its a waste of time for people who might actually be considering the college and you might ruin their chances of getting into their dream school because you thought you’d apply so you can shove the acceptance in your pocket and parade around your school like a pompous idiot.

Apply because you want to go there, not because its free

PS
just if you’re wonder, no im not jealous. i also recieved a VIP application, but i hate it when people waste other peoples time >:(

^Calm down. That’s part of the reason I’m applying there as well. Though I really like the sound of the Co-op program.

I’m just a bit confused about this whole VIP application deal.

I’m currently a junior and I got this application in the mail last week saying that Dec 1 2009 is the deadline. So how am I supposed to fill this out without knowing my class rank, gpa, SAT/ACT scores, more AP scores, SAT subject tests?

Heck, my school doesn’t even give out our first official rankings until after winter break (so I’ll get mine in 2010!). How does Drexel even admit students w/o knowing their SAT and other scores?

Did I get mine a year early or something?

Thanks

yea, you prolly got it a year early

I received this application and applied with it but was denied admission. the admission decision was incredibly quick. i got a decision only a week after i applied. my GPA is pretty low so i kind of expected to be denied but am still a little bummed about it. hopefully i get into the other schools to which im applying. But if you are thinking of applying, i strongly encourage you because its quick, easy, and it cost very little to send an app. (i didn’t waste too much money. only paid the $11 for sending my scores and transcripts…)
