Virginia Tech engineering and precalculus

Long story short Im a junior in Algebra 2 and I want to take calculus ab next year. I have to take precalc to get into calc ab. Now I could take a 10 week course over the summer with a community college and take calc ab in my senior year, but my guidance counselor advised against taking precalc in 10 weeks. She said I could take pre-calc 1 (5 weeks) over the summer and applied calc 1 in my senior year.

That seems better, but my math teacher said that not taking precalc 2 would leave out some important geometry stuff and whatnot.

What should I do? Would taking precalc 1 and 2 in only 10 weeks really be that hard, or should I go for it? Should I go against what my math teacher said and do the precalc 1/applied calc 1 thing?

Sorry for the poor grammar and sentence structure.

I was in your same situation last year, I was accepted into Vtech this year, and am taking Calc AB. I took precalc, the whole course, over last summer, and was in Algebra 2 my junior year. I think taking precalc in its entirety is difficult, but manageable (you sort of dont have a life outside of studying math though), but I think its worth it to take the entire course, so that way you can take Calc AB, which is partly a review of Precalc, next year. (this also looks good on your application, especially if your going into engineering) I agree with your math teacher in that not taking the other part of precalc would leave out some important aspects of it, but its your choice. I would take the ten week program if I were you, but if you feel more comfortable taking the 5 week program and then the applied Calc AB, then go ahead. You should also think about cost if thats an issue, because the tutor I had ended up costing my parents a couple thousand dollars, idk what the Community College program is like tho. good luck in choosing…
