I am a rising HS senior from the Northern VA area with the following:
3.77GPA
IB Diploma candidate
1810 SAT - 700 Math, 560 CR, 550 Writing
26 ACT (I know it's low, I may take it again)
field hockey varsity, lots of extra-curriculars
Caucasian female

What do you think my chances might be at getting admitted to the above listed schools? I am really interseted in Systems Engineering and Computer Science. I will definitely apply to VT early decision since I would really love to go there. I am also thinking about University of Florida, Iowa State and Miami of Ohio as possible schools. thoughts?

Is that an unweighted GPA? Did you take your SAT subject tests? Math II in particular?

Your test scores are too low for UF. You have an advantage at VT as an in state female, but I suspect your test scores are well below their mean.

A 26 is the mid 50% at UF so your scores aren’t TOO low. You have a chance but you should retake your test, that’s what I plan to do. Talked to admissions at UF and they said I’m a match with my 27 on the ACT. I’m retaking it so I’m eligible for more scholarships.

High School GPA of 4.1 - 4.4
SAT of 1780-2020
ACT of 26 - 31

UF uses holistic admissions, so it can feel rather random. If your GPA is un-weighted, then you’re a high match/match. UF isn’t very good with merit scholarships or OOS tuition waivers. You usually need to be in the top 25% to have a shot (on the other hand, UF is very good with need based FA for in-state students).
