Virginia Tech vs Austin

My son was admitted to both for Electrical Engineering. He has not decided yet…any opinions?

UT for sure if he has the choice.

Based on academics alone? How about campus life, etc?

This is the Texas board, so I don’t feel I’m being unfair by saying that UT Austin engineering is one of the premier engineering programs in the country. The new engineering complex being built completed this year should be world class. Austin is the coolest and most desirable place to live and work in the country.

UT Cockrell is always ranked about 10th nationally overall. I don’t believe VT ever is close to that. Some of the UT Engineering majors rank as high as #1 (Petroleum). Also there is a good network which gets kids their initial jobs, and Austin is filled with companies hiring UT Engineers. Socially Austin is one of the best cities in the U.S., and in my opinion much better than Blacksburg (I’ve been to both places). I honestly don’t see a comparison here between the two programs or experiences.

You should ask your question in the Virginia Tech forum as well if you want balanced information.

Great choices! Good luck!
