Hey there everyone,
I will be pursuing my Bachelor Degree at the Boston University in the field of Business and Management. It is a great honor for me to be part of such an renowned institution.

However the only hurdle left now is Visa!

I have prepared all the financial documents required for the visa interview and have paid the appointment fee and the SEVIS fee. However, the only problem is that I have not received my TOEFL scores as yet and it is predicted that they might take another 1-3 weeks to reach me. I am extremely tensed since as on 25th of June, less than 60 days will be left for my travel to US. I have not yet taken an appointment since I am waiting for the TOEFL scores.

What should I do? What kind of trouble I might face if I get late in getting my Visa?
I read in a forum somewhere that one should get there Visa done no later than 60 days of their intended date to travel to US.

What should be my next step?
Also, can anyone provide me with the checklist of documents required for the visa interview?

Thank You

PS- I got late in all the visa process since I had my IB boards till the end of May.

I did submit my TOEFL scores to Boston University. I did sent them directly from ETS. However, now when I have asked for a score report for myself, it is taking time to reach me although it has already been dispatched as on 7th of June.

Also, with a score of 110 out of 120, I think that presenting the TOEFL scores in front of the visa officer will help me create a better impression. What do you suggest me?

Also, looking at the required documents, it seems that I have prepared all of them with enough evidences to show my intend to return home.

Is there any such condition that the university’s require visa confirmation in no less than 60 days? Or any other kind of deadline?

The Visa is student’s requirement and not the university’s. The University’s role is to issue I-20 to facilitate the visa process. The I-20 is proof that you have accepted admission offer in that particular college and that you require a F 1- Student visa to travel from India to US. The visa is a government/Homeland department’s requirement for people to travel from one country to another.

Also if you do not receive your TOEFL scores you can mention it or carry a scanned copy of your online result. But frankly it is not required as you were accepted by Boston University on those scores. It is again an academic requirement not a travelling requirement. But you can make a mention of your scores if it comes up. Otherwise I think it is a non-issue.

So the universities have no such requirement or deadline regarding visa confirmation that I know of. Like I said, universities just offer admission, when you accept they issue an I-20, and to enter US to study you need and an F 1 Visa.

anialways,
Thank You for all the information. It has been highly helpful to me.

Your information has made it clear to me that Toefl scores won’t be much of a priority as far as Visa is concerned. So I suppose that I will arrange for an interview as soon as possible.

Any other integral thing which I need to consider?

Just to give you an idea, my D went for Visa Interview in the first week of July and she got it stamped by mid July. And she had to leave for US in the last week of August and it was all good. So the document submission, SEVIS fee payment and appointment, all that process was done in the last two weeks of June.

anialways,
Thank you for your kindness. I am looking for the exact kind of schedule. I have:
paid the Visa fee,
SEVIS fee,
Got my i20,
Got my financial ready and all the supporting documents.

I just need to complete the DS 160 form, get a pic clicked for visa and schedule an appointment.
I guess I have covered everything. Is there anything which I’ve missed?

Just out of curiosity,
Is there going to be a problem if I go for a Visa Interview after 16th of July?
The reason is that it might be possible for me to go to a trip to Thailand.
Although Visa is my priority and I can avoid the trip, but I was just asking this out of curiosity.
Thank You.

The thing is that I will be going to Thailand on 9th of july and will be returning on 16th. This probably will be the last chance for me to meet up with my sister who stays in Bangkok before going to Boston. After that it might be possible that I won’t be able to see her for the next 4 years.

There are interview dates available before 9th July, but the embassy will keep my passport. So I will have to bunk the trip.
