Visa interview/DS-160/Staying address

Hi there,

I will have my visa F1 interview at the us embassy in France soon. I wanted to know when I was filling the DS-160 form if this is a problem putting the school address (with the school approval) in the section “Address where you will stay?” As I still didn’t find housing.
If I get ask during the interview this question, what should I answer ? (Also knowing that the school doesn’t provide dorms)
Especially if in the meantime I found a housing, do I have to mention my “new” address or keep mentioning the school address ?
And what about If I still didn’t find housing, do I have to explain my answer about the school address ? Knowing that the departure is expected early January…

Thank you all and I will appreciate your help

It is unlikely that you’d be asked about the address at your interview. Interviewers are usually more concerned about the purpose of your trip and whether you intend to return home afterwards, than about which apartment or hotel you are staying in.

In addition, US Consulates specifically discourage visa applicants from spending money on travel arrangements prior to being issued a visa. So you’re really just following their advice by not spending money on a room until after you get the visa.

If you do get asked, be honest. What are your plans? What are you going to do if you can’t find a “permanent” room before you depart? (Stay at a hotel? Stay home?)

Once you’re in the US, make sure to keep USCIS informed of your current address at all times: https://www.uscis.gov/addresschange

So, as a “staying address” if I mentioned in the DS-160 form the school address it is not bad ? I’ll explain myself at the interview if needed ?
Thank you so much b@r!um for all the answers that you provide, it helps me a lot!
