Visit during spring break?

Do you think I will get much out of a vist (tour and info session) if I go during Vassar's spring break?

I messed up in planning my 'grand tour' and everything will have to be changed around to enable me to visit Vassar when it is in session. I will have to miss a day and a half in NYC, which I was really looking forward to spending there. But...I will, if most of you think it would give me a better chance to see the 'real Vassar'.

Thanks!

I visited Vassar over the summer and although I feel the visit was helpful in letting me see the campus, I do wish that I'd visited when school was in-session so that I could have gotten a bit more of the feel for the school. Therefore, I would recommend visiting when school is in-session unless you would be able to go back to the campus for a second visit later on so that you are sure that the student body is a good fit for you before you commit yourself to the school. Enjoy your trip!

You have highlighted my concern - that I will not be able to get a sense of fit with the student body. I imagine very few students would be around and I would, of course, not have the opportunity to sit in on a class or check out the food!

Anyone else?

We visited during Spring Break last year and there was not a single student on campus. We'd made an appointment with someone from the Music Dept. so had a nice chat and tour of the music building with a professor, but otherwise the place was deserted. My son went back in October when classes were in session and had a great visit attending classes and staying overnight.

you'd be surprised about students around on spring break. all of the athletes will be there, as well as a whole bunch of seniors who are frantically finishing theses. plus those who work on and around campus. true it wont be as many as usual, but there will still be plenty of bodies around.

I visited Vassar during the school's Thanksgiving break, and loved it. There was barely anyone around, but I still got to see what mattered to me, shallow college-visiter that I am...the beautiful campus, dorms, classrooms, etc. :) I wonder what I would think if I revisited when students were actually on campus--now I'm curious!

I think that if you have the opportunity to visit while school is in session, it's a good idea. But over NYC? hmm....

We visited 20 colleges, including Vassar. Seven visits were during the summer. My son felt those visits gave him enough info to decide where to apply, but now that he's applied, I think he'll want to re-visit the ones he hasn't seen with students on campus. Even if there are some students around on break, you won't be able to sit in on classes. Vassar was one he saw while it was in session and he did decide to apply.

if you take a tour, ask the tour guide about "squirm"
