Visited during winter as a Junior

I visited SLU as a junior (high school) in mid February to get a feel for the school. I deal with the cold during the winter (live in Southern CT), and I have to say I absolutely fell in love with the school even though it was very cold. Honestly, the week before driving up to SLU I was terrified to think that I drove 6 1/2 hours to hate the school but it was the complete opposite. We pulled into the school and I realized that I could see myself attending SLU. I really did enjoy the north country and didn’t even really mind the cold at all and I usually DO mind it. I loved that classes were small and intimate, the extra help the school offers, the wide range of activities, the workout facility is beautiful, study abroad program, sense of community, food options in the cafeteria (very surprised at it actually), and also what the school offered to do during the day (I went on a friday dead winter and they were playing movies in the Student center). I read a lot about the school before visiting reading that there was nothing to do in Canton but I honestly did not have an issue with that. I don’t want to be in a city because it is overwhelming. I thought Canton was fine and low key which I want for college. It’s not like college kids have a lot of money to go out and eat all the time anyways but there were like 3 small restaurants.

****I have to say, I have been EXTREMELY picky during the college process, I have not liked one school I visited until I went to SLU and I think that say a lot. If you have the time to go to SLU, I highly recommend to go visit. It may be very out of the way but the drive up is beautiful and the campus, students, teachers, are wonderful.

Thanks for that ^^^! I think SLU is one if the most underrated colleges around… and it has shocked a lot of people. My S is a rising Junior and he is happier beyond his wildest expectations… and he is a San Diego beach boy. I have literally not one bad thing to say about it. I would say the best thing is their sense of community. My younger son and I went out for a visit to see older one a while back and after staying with his brother in his theme house, going to an amazing outside concert, going to parties in the backyards of the theme house, my s turned to me and said, " this must be where all the nice girls in high school went". Everyone you walk by says hi, and are just so friendly, and unpretentious. Very active place… Everyone does 10 different things. Skiing up in Lake Placid on the weekends is huge… they even have a weekend where they close down a ski resort to everyone but SLU kids and they bus all the students up and it is one huge party with bands and lots of fun. I am pretty sure my S never wants it to end… Haha

Yes! I heard once it’s a students last year at SLU, they never want to leave! I cant wait to be back up in the fall.
