My son is headed to the Northeast with his school to look at colleges. He is interested in computer science and specifically game programming. Northeastern is on our radar and could be a great program for him to look at, but the school won't let him deviate from the planned tour.

We've arranged for him to check out the campus with his uncle on Friday night around 5 pm. I know this is not ideal, as classes aren't in session and students will be getting ready for the evening/weekend, but it is all we could arrange.

Any tips for him? Someplace he should check out? We are thinking the hallways of the computer science and co op office, cafeterias and just walk around.

I’d check out the CS building and the student center for sure. I’d check out the freshman quad area and IV, since he’d be living one of those two places. I’m not sure what you mean by co-op offices. There isn’t really one central place for that; things are distributed by college and there’s not really much to see for that in particular. Also, I’d stop by Ell Hall. Rubbing the husky’s nose is supposed to be good luck!

I would say not to bother with the classes - empty classrooms look like empty classrooms- eat dinner on campus at one of the dining halls, walk through the student center, the marino center lobby, stop by the library (don’t know if they will let you in or not since you are not with a tour group), go to the bookstore if they are open, the website says the visitors center is open until 5:30 - try to go there first. Print out a campus map before you go and try to map out these places so you can plan a route.
