Have any other CC juniors visited colleges yet, or is everyone waiting until this spring to start? I was thinking about going this week but some sites (e.g. Dartmouth) say they recommend visiting in your senior year. Do they just want to make sure those who visit are more likely to apply, not want juniors to clog up the space during admissions crunch time, or neither?

I would recommend visiting your junior year. However, most people go during the spring. Despite this though, it never hurts to take an early tour to establish whether or not you like the school.

I’m meeting with a department of a state school next week and plan to schedule another visit to another state school. I’m not sure how much I’d recommend visiting extremely selective schools if you’re not very close to them…

Lol, I didn’t start until the summer before my senior year. My neighbor (who’s in college now) started in the spring of his sophomore year.

I doubt they care when you visit. After all, most colleges offer tours at least twice every day Mon-Thurs.

My first official college visit was done on a whim the summer before this (Junior) year. It was nice. It wasn’t as good as I would’ve liked because I didn’t really know what I wanted. But I went on another one a little later, to Butler, which was way too expensive for me. But they gave us all a free barbeque since it was one of those really big visit days. But I went on a few more this year like Iowa State (was in town for a concert so went just because I was there), Central Michigan, and Purdue.

i was just on a tour of a state school and there were a few juniors there. I guess that makes sense though about Juniors clogging admissions tours during crunch time. But i don’t think they care when you visit, really.

Hahah, I did a few visits the summer before Junior year. I find college visits a lot of fun generally, so if I were you I would go on as many as possible.

well, I actually went on all the college visits my brother and sister did. So technically, i started doing college visits when i was 10 :D

Go ahead and go :]
This will be my Junior year too.
I’m gonna be visiting schools in the spring.
They probably don’t care when you come. I read somewhere that some schools keep count of how many times you visit. So, visiting could be a way of showing them how interested you are. The earlier you start, the earlier they begin to know your name.

I definitely plan on visiting a good amount of East coast schools through the summer and into the fall. It’s certainly wise to get a head start; the earlier you begin, the more insight you give schools on your determination and will toward said college.
