Visiting Elon questions

For you experienced Elon-ians:
Whats the name of the best BBQ restaurant in town?

We are thinking of going to a football game. Is there a chance of getting any shade ie which side faces west; the press box side or other?

What is the tailgating culture for family weekend? The University has a BBQ planned b/w 11 -1 PM and game time is 1:30 PM? So no tailgating?

FYI- the evening concerts of Family Weekend are sold out...

txs

The concerts were sold out literally on the first day registration was opened. I guess they were honest when they mentioned that in the literature.

Football - the “home” side faces the sun. The “away” side (sections 108 - 112) is a little bit shadier. Although frankly, at 1:30 pm both sides are in the sun.

There is tailgating in the parking lot next to Moffit & Staley dorms, near the football field. Not sure what they charge for parking there. Personally we enjoyed the barbeque lunch the school offers, it was really good and it was outside near the tailgating, next to Lake Mary Nell, near the football stadium. Tailgating isn’t a big deal at Elon like it is at ACC or SEC schools.

^^lafalum: are the football tix in demand as much as the Collage ones? when do you suggest we get them if we decide to go?

I think the Family Weekend game is popular, and I’d suggest going ahead and buying them if you plan to go to the game. Beyond that, I don’t think you’d have a problem getting tickets for most games the day of the game, at the gate.

Best BBQ was definitely Hurseys, in Burlington a few miles east. In fact, the highlight of the trip, Elon was faux, but Hursey’s was fine.

By the way if you have trouble getting a hotel in Burlington try the Comfort Inn Suites in Whitsett. Only 12 minutes from campus. We tried it this time and it was reasonably priced and super clean and comfy.
