Hey, I am going to be visiting nashville and vanderbilt in october, over columbus weekend. I will be doing the Oct 10th Pre-VU (har har, its like preview!). Is anybody else going? What should i go check out in nashville? I have been told to go to the pancake pantry. Is there anything, on campus or off, that I shouldn't miss?
Thanks,
Taffy

83 views, has anybody here even been to TN? :)

Well, I live in Nashville. Nothing really spectacular I can think of for a visitor to come see.

I think Nashville is a wonderful town. We have enjoyed all our visits there. As far as tourist places, there is Bicentennial Park right downtown that has a remarkable and impressive display of Tennessee history. Right near Vanderbilt is the Parthenon replica. The Grand Ole Opry is fun. There is Music Row downtown with lots of entertainment. Just outside of Nashville is Andrew Jackson's home the Hermitage.

The people are very friendly, and the town isn't just about country music. Hope you enjoy your visit.

thanks. my mom said theres some nashville tour thing that brings you around to see the whole city, we might do that.

you should come visit me! i can be your personal guide to vandy if you want. pm me if you want to

cool, i think my whole sunday is going to be devoted to nashville and then monday, when i do preVU, the whole day will be for Vandy. It looks like they pack our day pretty full, but they give time in the afternoon to go see a class, so if you have an interesting class on a monday afternoon, i may be interested in checking that out :D

all i have on monday afternoon is bio lab, which wouldn't be too exciting to watch

Nashville is not that interesting to me.....Lived there for 8 years now...cant wait to get out..lol

Taffy,

Go to Stephen Buckles' Econ 100 (Macroeconomics) class. It fits with your Monday afternoon constraint. Looks like there is a MWF section at 1:10 in Wilson Hall, Room 103 this Fall.

Go to SatCo, which is San Antonio Taco Company. It's right across 21st Avenue and the central (Heard) Library.

Save Pancake Pantry for a parents' visit if you matriculate. The weekend wait there can be considerable.

k cool thanks :)

according to ratemyprofs, hes an econ genius who likes to give tests :)

Interesting scheduling in the afternoon for the Pre-VU (12:30-1:45).

If you didn't know, all MWF classes start on the :10 and end on the hour. So everyone will be in the same situation as you sitting in on classes given that schedule. You'd be able to easily make the tour at just a couple minutes past 2:00, if you pick a 1:10 class anywhere on main campus. It probably would be ideal to sit in on the entire class. At least catch the start. If you wanted to leave early, just sit on the aisle near the back or the door. Most Vandy professors will not mind at all if you leave early quietly.

You should have a good pick of classes, MWF 1:10 is a popular time for scheduling class.

i think the way i posted it was unclear, its more like this:

Oh, makes sense now.

You might want to ask for a schedule of freshman seminar classes and pick one that looks interesting since you have a lot of flexibility in the afternoon.

Just get to the class early and introduce yourself to the professor. Classes are small and very interactive.

Taffy

I don't know what you like to do, but I lived in tennessee for 14 years and actually there are alot of interesting things to see you just have to go and look.

Taffy, my daughter and I are also going to Pre-VU on October 10th. We are coming all the way from Texas! Are you coming from pretty far away?

California :)

I'm a Freshman at Vandy right now. I would reccomend going to SATCO also, but definately check out Rotier's also. It's where Jimmy Buffet ate his cheeseburger in paradise, and it is right across from campus, behind Eckerd. Theres so much to do around campus, i would spend the day here more than I would downtown. I would check out downtown, but honestly I've been having the time of my life, and my friends and I have only gone downtown once. If you to go downtown, eat at Rippy's. It is right on Broadway. It usually has live music. Check out Wildhorse Saloon, it is a lot of fun. I'm in the Stephen Buckles economics class, it meets at 12:10 and 1:10 MWF. It is definately a good class. Buckles was the chief economic advisor to Regan, I believe. He flies in from Connecticut every week! Let me know if you have any other questions.
